Hard to believe it's been a year since I "took the plunge"...
I had shoulder length hair...had always kept it long...and had decided to do something "different" for the New Year last year...wasn't thinking of anything specific...wasn't planning on changing my appearance....no ideas really...
After work, I had to go to Walmart to refill a prescription, and while waiting and walking up and down the aisles, I walked by the hair clippers...I'd seen them a million times before, and kept walking...
But then....stopped.
I chuckled to myself and thought, "Wouldn't this knock them out at work?" I had toyed with the idea previously, and honestly had considered it more and more....but, like so many I see here, was concerned about how it would look, the shape of my head, etc, etc....
But, I bought them...
I brought them home and prepared myself....I must have stood in front of the mirror for a good 5 minutes with the clippers in my hand, on and running. I wasn't going for sly, then....I decided to try it a little longer and just see what happened...
I knew if I started on the sides, I could chicken out. So....RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE....and after a brief thought of, "Oh no...what have I done"...I thought....well....you're in now! So I finished it...
And the next day I kept looking at it....and decided to go one shorter.
Over the next two weeks, I continually kept going a little shorter...as I just kept wondering...
Eventually, the Walmart clippers wouldn't go any shorter, so I bought some more expensive clippers that would allow you to purchase shorter blades....
Finally, I was clipping to .1mm....other than the feel, it's as close to sly as you can get....
But...I still wondered....
So, finally....I took a razor to it and completely smoothed it out....as some here (Mr. Zed for one) have said, it really doesn't look much different, but it certainly FEELS different!
So, that's where I'm at now....I'll shave it about once a week (sometimes twice) and keep it to .1mm the days in between (it really does grow quickly....for those on the fence)
This was kind of long, but I never really did a proper introduction...and I'm proud of myself for sticking with it.
And I can tell you....I would NEVER let it get long again. It is SO much more convenient....my hair is very finely textured, so I always had to spray it or it would just hang straight down....and I HATED hair spray....I'll never have to use it again....
I could never wear hats (winter or summer) if I planned on taking them off because with the spray, and my type of hair, I looked completely awful....
The wind and/or rain was always a hassle....
Now....hats can go on or off.....I enjoy the wind and various precipitation types....
I can sleep later in the morning, because prep time is pretty much zero!
For ANYONE who is on the fence....as a one time "long-hair"..I can say.....give it a try....99% of you will like it, and will look GOOD in it.
1% of you....well...it may not be for everyone..but, it'll grow back fast. :)
I thank this site and one other for giving me the courage to not only initially do this, but to stick with it afterwards.
A Happy New Year to all the sly brothers and sisters out there!

Thanks for posting the story, Ozz2012, and Happy Anniversary on your one year of being Sly! It looks great on you, and I don't blame you for wanting to be done with long hair (or any for that matter).

I thank everyone for the responses and kind words!
It's definitely a supportive group here, and I've tried to post in like fashion when I thought I could be useful.
Tyler definitely had a great idea when he came up with this site.
I'm really not sure I would have been able to go through with it without having read all the other posts from the various members here.
It just shows that no matter how embarrassing, or how "weird" you think your problem/situation/thought process is, that it actually affects numerous other people, and here, we can all go through it together. ("It" being whatever your reason is...whether it be MPB, Hair Hatred, Dome Depression, or just wanting to try something new and being scared to death for fear of being ridiculed, etc)
I've belonged to several forum groups for various things over the years, and I have to say that I've yet to come across one so supportive, and lacking in the typical cruelty, hate mongering and bickering that I normally see pop up.
Kudos to all here who keep it that way.
So, again, I wish a Happy New Year to each and every person on this forum....lurkers and posters alike. :)

Thanks for the mention, sir.
I love the smooth feel of a fresh daily shave. Don't know how you can go a week without shaving your head.
I only did that once this year when i was sick. Man the hair grew fast.
Prefer it bald.
Thanks for your story
