I recently saw Dr. Phil on television, and couldn't help but wonder why he has never embraced his baldness. Being a man of psychology, it would seem like he would, right? Well, why doesn't he shave that little bit of hair? Does he not care what he looks like?
I found this article, where he blogs about it recently. He jokingly admits that he has a relationship with each hair on his head, but says he embraced his baldness years ago, and never cared about hair. He does have a certain confidence that makes it seem like he must be telling the truth, but why hold on to the few that are left? I think he is an anomaly when it comes to this.

I saw a program of his a fee years ago, here he literally bullied a guy wearing a combover to shave his head right then and there. I thought, "Physician, heal thyself." >:D

While I have always thought that Dr Phil should shave his fringe, I was always under the impression that this site was about embracing one's MPB also. I know most here shave their head but I thought that MPB was also embraced as long was there were no drugs, rugs or plugs?

I'm probably in the minority here...but in my opinion some people look decent with the traditional "horseshoe" Dr. Phil just happens to be one of those people..... who I think may NOT look good sly. (Terry Bradshaw is another). On the other hand some people even look better when they shave their heads out of the blue (see Steve Harvey) If the individual is happy with being partially bald, well we just have to accept it.

I was just trying to figure out the true acceptance of ones baldness. If you are holding on to a few hairs, is that acceptance? Or is it actually more of an acceptance because you are fine just as you are. (He doesn't do the comb-over, and always has his hair maintained, and seems confident. In the blog he wrote, he doesn't mention even thinking of shaving his head... he just takes it as it is, and doesn't worry about the hair loss. It is definitely the look that we all know him as. I was thinking that acceptance meant to shave it off, and have been judgmental in my own thinking of others who decide to let it be as is (even though they were not doing comb-overs or any other method). For years, I did nothing, but wanted to. I just let my hair be "as is", but wasn't happy and had not really accepted it. For me, taking it all off was embracing it... and I think that has been the case for most of us on this site.

Gotta agree with Harry. In the few times I've seen Dr. Phil's show, I've never looked at him and thought "Dude, shave the hairy toilet seat". He excudes confidence.

I also agree with Harry and offer as an additional example of this--although rare--phenomenon , Mitch Pileggi, who played Walter Skinner on X-Files.

I think "acceptance" is what it is ... you accept yourself (whatever feature) as it is.
Which does not exclude taking action to improve said feature - such as shaving one's head.

True. I guess I have been "thinking out loud" with my original post, as I have tried to figure the acceptance-of-self thing. I am woken up to the fact that some people embrace it that way. I never could.. I lived with it for years, but hated it. Didn't do anything about it, just live with it. So, in my mind, shaving it was embracing it. That is why I couldn't understand someone like Dr. Phil, who seemed to embrace it "as is", with confidence.

Dr. Phil laughs his bald head all the way to the bank ... toilet seat look or not, he exudes confidence. I just saw an acquantance whom I had not seen in two years and he used to keep his hairloss buzzed and now he wears a bonified comb over and I was making eye contact in direction. Oh well ... he's like 30 and looks 80 with a comb over.

I have to say that I think that Jesse Ventura with a ponytail is a hair don't! But truly, if a person has the confidence to be MPB without shaving their head, then more power to them. I do think Dr Phil and even Terry Bradshaw would probably look good sly. I think they should try it at least once. But at least they are not covering their baldness up!
