Title: Can you be too sly?
Post by: Argyle on May 30, 2007, 06:25:16 AM
Bit of a strange question, but has probably been the only thing that has ever bothered me about going bald.

Does it matter to any of you guys how bald you are?  It is probably the only thing that I still obsess about having gone through the whole hair loss thing!  What I mean is, my hair has all gone on top, but has also gone from around 30% of the side of my head, at times this drives me crazy with neurosis thinking that god i am only 27 and my hair has gone so much worse than other guys.  I also have dark hair so the shadow is always there and quite noticeable.   Whilst I am sure this is not the case, i thought i would post and banish this final demon.  I am determined to reach the day very soon when i look in a mirror to shave without analysing the way i look.  I feel that time is getting close - the guys on this site have helped.

I should add that head on I am pretty happy, just as ugly as i was with hair  :D i dont think much changes, but i do obsess about my profile a bit.  I have posted a pic in the gallery, but not sure how to do linky things.  But........what do you guys think?  Can you be too sly?

Being too Sly?  That's like having too much fun - just not possible.

I get where you're coming from.  But, I always have a rule, I only worry about what I can truly change.  And in the case of your hair, there is nothing you can do that you aren't already doing - shaving it.  So, there's really no point in worrying how much you have if you didn't shave it.

You look like your a good looking guy from the side view in the gallery so you shouldnt worry about it!

The problem with hairloss is that we worry that we will be less attractive to the opposite sex, so the question that you have got to ask yourself is, do you get more ladies now than you used to?

BTW the rate that Im going Ill have the same hairline as you by the time Im 27, well at least I think I will. But I have one good thing about my hair, its blonde!!! So not much shadow, and it will go grey in the next 10 years!!!

All I can say is, I do care abit as in "Im too young!" but then again I think "Im better looking than some guys!", "I get well paid" and "Im in fairly good shape".

Good answer and thanks.  I think i have been having a bad hair day so to speak ;)  In terms of attractiveness to the opposite sex...well i think she is stuck with me now, my partner is having my baby in around two weeks.  But in all honesty yes we got together when i was shaving my head.  She says that she prefers it to the pictures of me when i had hair.

I can identify with Argyle to a point on this issue.  I'm 26 and have significant thinning on top.  Hair still grows there but it's about 1/4 as thick as the hair around the sides and back of my head.  I started shaving around five years ago when i saw a picture of myself from behind with wet hair and noticed a pretty big patch of skin visible.  Every now and then it bothers me that I am losing my hair at such a young age but I usually get over it pretty quickly.  Just look at it this way....by shaving it you look 10 times better than the poor saps that are spending money on regrowth treatments or rocking comb-overs. Plus, ladies usually love the bald look and the confidence that goes along with it.  I think pretty much everyone in here is either married or not lacking for dates.

Consider yourself 'lucky' Argyle.  The less hair you have, the better it looks IMHO.  You are rocking the look.  I'm stuck with this ugly mug, but at least I have a smooth head.

A truely SLY guy or gal who was too SLY would be too SLY to admit it so the answer is obviously NO!   ;)

Being "too sly" is like being "too happy" or "too successful".  It's not really possible.  I know what you're saying about the hair loss thing, but it's out of your control and you should take some pride in knowing that you've done the best thing possible to improve your appearance.  We all obsess about certain perceived appearance flaws.  In most cases, the rest of the world doesn't even notice these "flaws."

This is an exciting time of your life.  A lot of great things are happening and are going to happen.  Enjoy them to the fullest and don't worry about unimportant things like how many hairs you have to shave off your head each morning.  8)

Is this the photo you're referring to?  What's the problem?  I don't see anything wrong with it.   ???

Argyle, I don't think it's possible to be too sly, and I don't see a thing wrong with your profile. You now have a lady that met you when you were sly and is having your baby - sure sounds like she finds you attractive.

I used to obsess about my hair loss - combovers for over 30 years. Now, since I shave my head, I rarely even think about hair loss. Over time, I believe you will simply forget about hair loss - being sly is the best cure for it out there.

Take comfort in the fact that by shaving your head and following the way of the sly YOU are in control, not mother nature.  You have won the battle.  Sport your trophy with pride.   O0
