Title: down to a zero!
Post by: thinkingaboutit on November 20, 2012, 06:44:48 PM
Hi everyone,
Last week I posted about some hesitations I had about shaving it all off - the barber did me at about a 1 and I loved it. So did everyone I encountered. It took a while for my clippers to finally arrive, but they did today - and just in time because my hair had grown appreciably in a week - it as starting to look like silly peach fuzz. I did a 1 and then said, ah the hell with it, I'm going with the guard off. When I started buzzing it, I said to myself, "Oh geez, what on Earth are you doing?" but by the time I finished (45 minutes later - not easy to do the first time and without two mirrors), I absolutely loved it. The back of my head feels phenomenal, like a nice carpet lol.

I really like the look and feel but keep saying, Man I wish I had more hair on top. So I think it's just a matter of time before the gel and razor come out and I give the sly look a shot! Probably over my December break so it can get **some** sun before going back to work...

Man I wish I had more hair on top.

The real world is that your "hair time" is over.  Embrace your genetics, go to the bone, and get on with your life.  It's really that hard and really that simple.

When I buzzed myself down to a zero-guard the first time, I couldn't resist taking the blade to it.  Just go for it; it won't look much different, but if you like the way how it feels now, you will LOVE how it feels perfectly smooth.

The guys above are so right ... now that you're thinking about shaving with a razor there is only one solution ... DO IT!

And the visual difference is really imperceptible to others ... but when you feel the difference ... Ooh la la!

Agreed. If you're this close, shave it and see what it's like!

......and when you do it, don't forget that you must follow the 30 day rule.

Yep, Rob6 has a good point. When those outside of, "Sly Nation" see you down to zero, they see bald....go to the bone, amigo.

Well, I did the deed. Thanks to all the encouragement I discovered when I logged on earlier. Finally took the razor to the skull and I must say, it felt totally natural to do it. I'm digging the feel and the look - only thing is the lack of hair has revealed a bunch of red blotches on the back of the neck. Hoping this is more from the razor than anything else...

Picture is attached for the big reveal - thanks for the push!

Looks great! The red blotches will probably fade within 20-30 minutes after shaving.

Yes, indeed. "Down to zero" means bald to the rest of the world. Time to clean it up with a razor and take it down to the wood for the final effect! Why wait a minute longer?

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Looks great, hope you're keeping it! O0
Even if the 0 buzz gets near the bald look the razor simply performs better.

Fantastic look- the redness will fade as tour skin gets conditioned. The 30 day rule is a must. You are I your way. Isn't the smoothness great?

I don't post too often, but have to relate this story. I took my son for a haircut today, but not to our regular barber (but to a classic barbershop, as we always frequent). I clippershave, weekly to a #00000 or #000000; it had been a week since my last clippershave and I had a #1 looking buzz.  I figured that I would treat myself to a barber clippercut. When the next available barber said "next", and I approached, he looked at me and asked "you want a haircut?"  I just said, "yes, just take it all off."  When I was seated, he asked if I wated a 'zero' and I said "yes, use the shortest blade you have."  Then, he got into it, and clipper shaved me right down to the skin.  He did a nice job.

So, it was interesting. The barber didn't seem like he had many MPB guys coming in and asking for a #000 clippershave.  I wonder how many other sly guys have had similar experiences in barber shops?

You might find these disappear with practise. If not, consider a pre-shave oil.

I definitely am - haven't found someone yet who doesn't think it looks good. And I've never had so many people say, "You have the perfectly shaped head." :)
