I have incredibly thick hair (average length), not sure if I will naturally go bald for a long time, however I have dandruff which is extremely annoying. Whenever I get a hair cut (#3 or so) it becomes a lot easier to prevent the dandruff for a little while, until it gets longer again - where I doubt any of my shampoo gets close to the roots/scalp.
I'm thinking of shaving it all the way down to the skin for easy treatment, only temporarily. My bare head hasn't seen the light of day since I was a baby, so I'm sure it's going to be whiter than white after I'm done shaving it all off. My plan will be that when there's no hair, I can apply the shampoo directly to the scalp and clear it up for good. I also have a theory that if I get a bit of a tan on top it might 'seal' off the skin and prevent the dandruff coming back?
Has anybody had a similar situation or have any advice? Also if anybody has any idea of how long it would take tanning the top?

I used to suffer from seborrheic dermatitis. I'd dealing with itching and flaking that was worse in the colder, drier months of the winter. I found complete relief from the itching and flaking by keeping my head cleanly shaved. I would imagine you'd experience similar results (I know others have).
As far as the tan question, I have no clue. I had MPB (male pattern baldness), so I already had some color before going completely sly.

You should try it shaved. Also, dandruff is not a condition in and of itself. Dandruff is a symptom and can indicate one of several skin conditions. You may wish to consult with a doctor to see what is the cause of the dandruff.

I can't address your questions directly.
But I did want to caution you, after shaving you may very well like it so much you stay Sly permanently. You may be surprised.

Simply admit it you wish to shave your head :)
While shaving I believe you will have no problems with the dandruff, but I can't tell for sure that the dandruff won't come back after starting to grow your hair back.

Welcome to the forum mate, I am another one that used to suffer from dandruff really badly, to the point I was scabbing and have a bit of scarring from it. But I found almost instant relief from shaving my head and keeping it smooth. So I can't say if it will be a permanent solution if you plan on growing your hair back when it has cleared up

I had the same problem years ago. I shaved my head completely bald and that helped 100%. Better than expensive shampoo's.

Yes, your scalp will be much lighter in color than the rest of your skin since it's been hidden under a mop of hair. It will also be more sensitive to the touch and the air temperature at first.
If you are shaving only to treat the dandruff, don't worry about how long it will take for the skin color to match. If, however, you decide that being bald is better than having hair, then the time for the skin tones to match depends on how easily you tan. I don't tan easily or quickly, so it took several month for the difference to fade.
