Title: What should i use ?
Post by: Ray Ray on November 08, 2012, 02:42:13 PM
Hey everyone

i've been shaving my head with normal 3 blade razors (non branded) and i sometimes get razor burn on my neck and sometimes still get the 'rough' feeling after im done. What razors do you guys recommend and what is the 'correct' way in shaving your head, because i usually run the tap till the waters warm, pour warm water over my head, then put on shaving gel, then start the shave, then put like a cold flannel or something on my head after to close the pores then i jump in the shower and then put moistursier (sorry bad spelling :()

is this the correct way ?

Not a prob. about the spelling RR.

It sounds like you are pressing to hard with the razor.  And try using HB Slick, or a good soap, not sure if your using that canned stuff, but I never have found most of it to compare to HB, or a good Shaving Soap with brush .

Hope this helps !  Good Luck !

Shower first, then shave.  The hot water of the shower will soften the stubble and make it easier to shave and will likely reduce the razor burn.

Consider adding a pre-shave oil before shaving your head, such as King of Shaves.

Shave Secret from WalMart. All you need is about five drops mixed in with your shave gel. Once you get the hang of it, invest in a shaving brush which spreads the lather better and gives closer shaves with almost no irritation. Good Luck!

@Ray Ray

Try the HeadBlade, it works brilliantly!  Use the cheaper generic blades if price is an issue.  Also, try to shower first before shaving, this preps your head better.  Next get yourself a shaving brush and use shaving cream or shave soap instead of the "canned goo".  Good old fashioned "Wet shaving" works best.

I've tried various shaving products over the last few years but I always go back to Headblade.

I use the five blade cartridge M5.  The secret is don't press hard - no  need to. just go over it several times in different directions.

As for what I use, I'm currently loving the HB Sport with the HB triple blade cartridges.  I should be getting the ATX with some 6-blades in the mail today though (YAY 20% off!), so I'll have to get back to you on that one.  Just remember with the Sport NO PRESSURE ON THE BLADES!!!!!!  If you do, you'll swear you shaved off your skin   :XX.  Also take your time if you can.  Nearly every time I try to get it done quick, I pay the price.

Here's my current routine:

Hop into a hot shower, get head wet, (every now and then I scrub here with Nutrogena acne was (the orange pump bottle stuff), but I only do this once every 3 days or so) apply 2-in-1 shampoo and don't rinse untill done with shower, pat dry, apply preshave (I use Lectric Shave, can't beat the closeness but it has an intense warming sensation that I would avoid if I had a sensitive scalp) and work it in against the grain, apply shaving cream against the grain (I'm weird, I like Gillette Foamy menthol (cheap canned stuff)), shave against the grain, rinse with warm water to clean off the shaving cream, rinse with cold water to close pores and combat irritation, slap on some HB HeadLube (I use the one with SPF 30, gives it a nice shine that won't blind people), go outside and feel the nice, cool morning breeze on my smooth dome.

After about 30 minutes or so I reapply the HeadLube to the back of my head (for whatever reason the back of my head really soaks it up, the sides and top not so).  I also take a fish oil pill because it really helps my skin out in the dry winter months, so I figure it helps with a dry scalp.

I have yet to have irritation in a week using this, but as always YMMV as all scalps are as unique as fingerprints.

Buddy if it works for you then do it.  I am to old to go through all of that  ;) get in the shower put the headslick on and use the HB sport, wash the rest of my body and boys etc..  Get out and dry off , then do the ole face, if I haven't done it prior to getting in the shower.  I have CRS !  So feel my way around !  Thanks for sharing man.  O0
