Hey, I'm Dave and I've been sly since September 20th. I started losing my hair at 16, and by 21 the yamaka spot on the back of my head was next to completely gone and the top of my head had gotten so thin it looked almost platinum blonde next to my gingery brown hair.
For a long time this really messed me up. Growing up I had long, thick, curly strawberry blonde hair that was always admired by the ladies. There was actually once in the seventh grade where two girls got into a fight because both of them wanted to sit behind me to play with it lol. So yeah, I was always quite proud of my hair. Once it started to go I tried everything, Rogaine, Naproxin, fauxhawk, buzzcut, for some reason I thought even a pompadour would even help hide the fact that it was on its way out. Each sorta worked for a bit, but not really.
I finally broke when I was working at Publix one day. I was bagging this one ladies groceries when her daughter in the cart kinda giggled told me "You know you're not old enough to be bald yet." I knew it was true and her mom apologized profusely, she was only about five years old so she really didn't know what she was saying, but it still hurt like hell.
Later that evening I grabbed a HeadBlade Sport and some bottles of Head Slick and Head Lube (the one with 30 SPF in it, I'm a pale dude of north Irish decent living in FL, not taking any chances). The fist shave was not really pleasant. I don't think the clippers i had got it down quite far enough, and I don't think I like the Head Slick.
Since then I think the smooth look has grown on me (pun intended O0). After all the Why?'s died down, I've had a lot of compliments on it. I even ran into my old barber (awkward) and he told me it really suited me.
So yeah, hi!
EDIT: For some reason my profile pic isn't working, so here's a pic: (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fsphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-snc7%2Fc0.0.403.403%2Fp403x403%2F395101_4023338664005_2129695229_n.jpg&hash=353c17a31fc8352de4940d7fb76a36d79ac6739e)

Good move, and it only gets better. And, as an extra: it's a power trip, see: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/01/bald-men-dominant-shaved-heads-study_n_1930489.html

Welcome Dave ... it's a very natural look for you. You should feel quite comfortable sporting the Sly Style.

Welcome to the family mate, your barber was right! I'm glad to hear you've gotten past all the negative reactions and are still rockin the sly look.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! It felt a little weird at first, driving with the car windows down and feeling the wind swirl behind my ears; going to scratch my head and not feeling hair, leaning up against a brick wall and feeling just how rough it was on my scalp etc.
Got some HB 3 blade cartridges yesterday, far superior to the two blade and Atra's I tried. Closer and NO irritation on the back of my head. Me gusta :@`

I think you look great!

Lol.. I like that comment you made about how it was awkward running into your old barber. For a while, I used to have a lady cutting my hair. She was not cheap, but I felt that she did a better job than most I had tried. When my hair started getting thinner, she assured me that I would not go bald...lol. -I have run into her a few times over the years and it has felt a little awkward, but I kinda laugh inside. (especially now that I made the choice to take it all off and be done with it).

As a fellow Floridian, welcome!
I agree with everyone here that the sly look suits you well.
I'm light skinned as well and it's good to see you showing the proper respect for the sun living in a climate such as ours.
