Hello,
I've had highish temples for a while now but only noticed the balding in the back of my head recently.
What do you think? shave it all? I'm 27 years old fwiw

Its all up to you man, do you feel stress and paranoia with your receding line and light balding on the crown?
Going from your pictures, I'd say you would definitely pull off the sly look well (defined eyebrows, good head shape), and look better than you do now. If you're up for it give it a try and go for it!

Hey. Give it a try. If you don't like it, you can grow it back to where it is in about 4 months. In the meantime, it'll be nice and short for summer.

If you're not quite sure, get a pair of clippers, and take it down some. If that works, keep going shorter and shorter. Eventually you will get to the point where you can see what it will look like. At that point, you can either take the razor to it, or keep it short and cool for the summer. Just remember to get some sunscreen because having it extremely short will definitely expose your scalp to some strong rays that you're not used to.

starting with a buzz and working your way to sly is a good idea, just do what makes you happy.

I agree with the others, you gotta do what makes you happy, but I'll bet constantly worrying weather or not someone else notices your thinning hair, probably doesn't make you very happy. In fact it probably makes you a little self concious, just about every post I've read hear after an individual shaves their head, they feel way more confident about themselves, no more worrying if??

Welcome, Gunpwdr. Your hair looks pretty good right now. I'm sure that you notice the places that it's receding more than other people. But, I'm guessing you wouldn't have visited this forum and have asked for our advice unless you've thought about it a little. The only way you'll know if you like it, is if you try it.
Like others have said, you should probably just try buzzing it and you'll get the feel for what looks right. Best of luck. I'll look forward to seeing more pics and hearing what you decide. 8)

Welcome Gunpwdr, I agree with everyone else. You can pull it off no problem. Start by buzzing progressively if you want, all the way down to no guard. That will give you the best idea about the look without completely shaving. But, once you have the thought implanted into your noggin, you won't be happy until you SLY the dome.

Try this is you really want to see what youll look like, it wont show you exactly but it will give you some idea. They can either do a free one and its posted on the site or you can pay and keep it private

I don't think you need to but it's entirely up to you of course. You could trim it down to a 1 or 2 and try it for a while.

Gunpwdr, I was in the same place as you when I was 27. I wish this site had existed back then, I would have saved myself alot of grief throughout the years. I would say as long as you feel good about yourself, don't sweat it. But if you start to feel the need for a change, give Sly a try! Work your way down as suggested with the clippers and see what you think.
In my opinion, you could definately sport the slyness!

Stew and the others have a good idea to try the clipper route if you want to take it slow. That's what i'm doing...it's a good option if you're undecided.
Have to warn you though, I've gone from a #4 on the sides and back to a #2, now clippershaved in the course of a few weeks hanging out in this forum.

Take it down a little & see what you think. Go for a razor if you decide you like it SLY.

If it bothers you and you want to try it but you have alot of hair left. I wish I was in you r shape. Anyway you are at the point where it will look good with a buzz or with what you have. So you can try it and grow it back if you want. Lucky you.

Sure is. In fact, I decided to change my username from "wannatrysly."
What was I thinking "wannatry"? That implies a lot of sitting on the fence. So I'm gonna go for it at a steady pace shorter and shorter.
Got it clipped with the #0000 blade (didn't even know there was a blade like that) by my barber yesterday. Up to the crown. Pretty much a shaved skin high and tight. Have about 10 days beard going and might try to carve out a goatee. Need to look at a few styles first.

welcome....g. since it is summertime, i would go 4 the sly-look. u have plenty of hair 4 now but if u r already talking about going sly or thinking about going sly..... then the best time is the present time. i was in a similar situation like u 3 years ago but i finally went sly on april 24,2007. and i wished that i had done it 3 years ago... when i was thinking about it. i know that u will rock the sly look. man.... just do it. your 1st reaction will b ..."i shoulda done this in the beginning".
anyways.... just my 2cents..... when it comes down 2 it. it will b your decision. keep us posted on your decision.

Ditto on what the others have said...go the route of the clipper stages thing...it'll get you and those around you used to the shape of your head with less and less hair....

I say Rock the Sly Gun, I had the same male pattern baldness issue in my 20's, and it only got thinner as time went on. even though short cuts sort of hide it, in the long run, Sly is the way to go...
