Title: Just wanted to say thank you
Post by: Bandini on November 02, 2012, 09:23:22 PM
Hi, I have been a lurker here for several months now, and I have been reading through many of the posts night after night while struggling over what to do about losing my hair.  I have been cutting it shorter and shorter all year, after realizing i was getting very thin on top, and really starting to look awful.  i got it all the way down to shaving it with clippers without a guard, but it actually made it look worse than ever.  I should mention that my hair turned grey when i was 22, and i have suffered through 20 years of premature grey hair, only to finally get old enough to actually have grey hair just as it decides to start falling out.  Anyway, the short grey hair gave me a glowing-halo look that made me look sick.  Everyone at work kept asking each other what was wrong with me and whether or not I was sick and what the hell was wrong with me, etc, etc...  You heard it all before, I know.  I kept trying to let it grow longer and then kept getting frustrated when it wasn't growing back in front or in back.  Then I would cut it down again.  I didn't have the guts to really shave it, and didn't believe the posts on here which ensured me I would be freeing myself if I just bit the bullet and shaved it clean.  Then I went through the wearing a hat phase... more shaving and more growing back... over and over...  but finally, thanks to this site, I was able to finally take the plunge tonight and shave it off.  And you were all right!  It looked much better and it made me wonder why I was so afraid to do it in the first place.  I feel like a huge weight has been lifted, as I no longer have to worry each day about whether I'm going to grow it back or shave it off or wear a hat.  The answer is clear... I'm Sly now!  Thanks to everyone who's posts I've read on here, and thank you to all I will continue to read now that I have decided to do the only sensible thing.

Welcome to the bald brotherhood Bandini. You look great shaved smooth. It took you some time to find the courage to take the plunge but what is important is that you made the right decision. Enjoy the freedom.

Another welcome, and congratulations for resolving the issue. Hair should not be a struggle.

I have no doubt you'll complete the 30-day challenge ... but it wouldn't hurt to make that commitment to yourself to keep you on track.

Welcome to the Sly world. Great place and even greater residents.

Welcome to the family mate, you certainly made the right decision, and I'm glad that we were able to help you do it :D

I agree you should give the 30 day rule a crack, even though it sounds like you've already made up your mind, it will give you and you family/friends time to get used to the new you, while giving you the opportunity to perfect your technique and routine.

Agreed.

From my own experience, you'll be pleasantly suprised how soon people adjust to the new you.

Thanks everybody.  I'm still worried about using a blade, I've been shaving my head with an electric face-shaver.  It gets very close to the skin, but it's really overworking the shaver.  It's nice and easy though, until it burns out.

As long as you take it nice and carefully you'll rarely nick yourself, it's only when you start rushing or doing silly things that you'll nick yourself. You'll also dramatically reduce your shaving time too, I used an electric a couple of times and I felt it just took forever!

Nice shine. Welcome. Enjoy the bald state. You look suited to the style.

Razors are easy to use. Try a triple blade like the hydro5 . Hard to cut yourself, but you get a very close shave.you'll enjoy the feel.

You look great - stay with it.  I stopped using electric razor long ago. find now much less irritation with shaving with the new multi blade cartridges.  The main thing I find in shaving head is to  avoid pressure.  Just go lightly - in multi directions - I go by  feel.

Totally agree with bennett , everytime that I have cut myself has been putting to much pressure on the blade, or being in a hurry.  And for the time it takes to heal up sure isn't worth it.   ;D
