Title: Otter Case for iphones.
Post by: theman on October 20, 2012, 07:13:13 PM
I have a iphone 4 and love it .  Always take care of all things I own.  I like the good stuff, not cheap crap.
Had enough of that when I was a kid, and got buy.  But I have found you get what you pay for in this world.  Quality is top issue , if it is not good don't mess with it.

I like my Otter Case, and their policy and protection is super.

Any other brother have one ?  ^-^

I've got the 4S and I used to have a Victorinox case on it, but that turned out to be a HUGE HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE POS.

I've now got this nice designer gel/hard case that my lady bought me. I've got front and back scratch protectors on it, too.

I like to have the phone in my pocket, so the otterbox seems a bit bulky for me.

I agree, it is a bulk so could you pass pm me or tell me what your brand is.  Thanks bro.

Affirmative on that. I also have found that they get alittle loose. So what do you use now?

It's made by Nicole Miller. It's a designer brand, looks real sleek, hard plastic back with the frosted gel case on the sides/front corners. NO screen protection whatsoever, other than the plastic scratch protector I have on it.

She got it for me at TJ Maxx. Think it was like $8. They make a bunch of different designs.

Otterbox works the best as far as protection wise, but they sure don't look very cool IMO. There's a waterproof case out there, can't remember what it's called, like the LIFE Case or something. Think those run around $80, or at least used to. As gentle as I am with my phone, an $8 case that people actually comment on works just fine! lol

BUT, to each is own.

I have the black Otter Box Defender Series case for iPhone 4s.  It's their heaviest duty case and I can't imagine a tougher case.  I knocked out the clear plastic faceplate over the screen on purpose because it gets dirty easily and stuff gets trapped behind it.  There's not much use for it if the phone falls on the ground because the front borders are raised enough to protect the screen.  Definitely a bit bulky for pants, but that's kind of a #firstworldproblem, haha.  I've purposefully dropped my phone from shoulder height on a sidewalk many times just to demonstrate the Otter Box's toughness to friends.  Though I wouldn't go this far to show off my case, one friend of mine has put his Otter Box'ed phone on the ground and stomped on it with no damage at all.

I have looked around and I called Otter and told them that mine was very loose.  My case that is LOL !  She said she would send another one out right away.  Recieved it in 3 days,  I have learned to carry mine in my shirt pocket or Jacket Pocket.  Still bulky but good service and warrenty, and they are tough.
Don't have the bucks to by a new phone and not sure about the insurance I paid for LOL.  They would proably tell me it was a act of God or something, if something should happen to my phone.

Thanks for all the great posts.

I looked at the otter cases when I upgraded to the 4S last month. They look nice but I wound up buying a mophie juicepak instead. I use my phone for Internet service a lot so I like having the extra power supply. Plus it pulls double duty as a protective case.

I've just picked myself up a samsung galaxy s3 over the weekend, and have been looking around for a good quality protective case to put it in. so fat I've been leaning towards the otterbox or ballistic SG Maxx, I think then pay day rocks around I'll be ordering the Ballistic. It is about $10 cheaper and has been given slightly better reviews, and for a protective case it still looks pretty decent.

They make them for iphone too, so it might be another option, if you want a protective case, but again because of what they are, they are a little bit on the bulky side.

I think you will like it as long as you don't mind the size it is a defender and they are tough.

I agree they are very tough and bulky, the quality is like no other. I don't usually like bulky cases but my iPhone 5 is precious to me ha ha so I want to keep it in top notch condition.

I have had tons of iphones
and I am currently using a iphone 5
bought the green and blue otterbox defender the day i picked up the phone..
the otterbox I had on my 3gs was great the one on my 4s was not so hot
(otterbox did send me a replacement)
the one for the iphone 5 seems a bit more rugged that its 4s predecessor just not by much
these cases can be found on ebay at a much better deal than retail
In my honest opinion I think they are woth around 20-25 usd not full retail.

Beardman-
I took a short tryout on the galaxy s3
it was not for me however I bouth a otter defender case for it and it was decent
also bought a 64gb card and ended up selling it all on ebay due to the phone was nice...
I really liked the larger screen but it was not very user friendly
it was not the droid operating system my droid friends could help me with...
and i did not like the strange button sitting at the bottom of the screen.
I decided on trying the galaxy note but went back to iphone due to offering tattoo work for A iphone 5.
the Galaxy note is essentially the same chips and such as the s3 just with a even larger screen and in my opinion a more durable
casing.

I have a friend who is a total cell phone nerd and he tries to keep me up to speed on this stuff...

The iphone 5 case has a few differences from the iphone4s case
notably the camera lens opening:
(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi125.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp75%2Fothervoicez%2FA62A5BC5-62D0-4B2C-A47D-FF2A5C3C702D-852-0000004E15784E8A.jpg&hash=3010d79d6a60236f6b7c2aa37b2d199de2b75b74)

and the most noticeable difference in the front is the fact that the home button cover is redesigned to
resist becoming misshaped.

like i said above these cases are all avail on ebay at about 40% off retail and that is your best bet.

I would also like to add this...
I am quite disappointing in apple products and the fact that they never really offer anything new
a new device comes out with a barley noticeable tweak and customers buy it up for exorbitant pricing.

dont try to sell me on oh the screen is a half inch longer or its 1.3 seconds faster...
I as a consumer want real upgrades from previous models.

do i like having a nice capable device in my pocket? you bet...

are we really going to keep buying the same device over and over every year?
 I for one will not.

Sorry for the rant....

Thanks Scott ,

That was a great update.  I do like the power switch on the newer iphone 5 case.  That was interesting, thanks again.  MY i phone 4 is all I need , but I do take care of all my stuff, so I also like the otter box.

I only had one problem with the s3 originally, and that was that you can't just drag the apps around on your screen to put htem where you want, you actually have to have the editor open. But other then that it is a nice upgrade on the old HTC desire that I was using before hand.

The screen on the s3 is already borderline too big as it is... so having the bigger screen of the note would be too much. I still need to be able to put it in my pocket and have it not be a hindrance at work. I have also seen drop tests and know that they are not as tough as the iphone 5 especially, but that is why they invented protective cases lol.

All in all though I'd say that the s3 is definitely worthy of it's title of the best android phone on the market, at the moment I think the only thing that comes close is the new motorola, which I was pretty close to choosing, but I just didn't like the overall look of it.

I went from a 4s, fancied a change and got the s3, realised the screen was too big for me and then got the 5 which I'm delighted with.

Funny that's my story as well ^^
However I loved the screen size of the s3
Just could not get on with the user interface.

I a, not having an issue with the user interface, it took me about a day to adjust from the HTC to Samsung way of doing things. I think HTC's lay out was better though, a little more user friendly.

Gotta go with you Beardman, not sure if he is Signal 20  (Suicidal)  or if he is saying we are on the railroad to Hell !  Anyho, I also enjoy it !  LOL !

Keeps people wondering !   ;)  That is good !  O0

Haha, never been a signal 20 in my life thankfully and if you guys are on the railroad to Hell, then I am driving the train  >:D

When it comes down to it with phone choices it is an individual choice. I personally would never use an iphone, and will strongly give my reasons why, but at the end of the day, it is down to the person.  And if like in the past, people come to me for advice, I give them the pros and the cons, and let them decide.

Bro. Life is a ride !  And I can't see you going to Hell !   ;)  At time's we all feel that way but you have to much heart, kindness, talent.  Phones are phones gotya !  Different folk , different strokes !   O0  At the end of the day !  It is all good because we are all (each and everyone of us ) made differently , but can relate to all if we give it a chance. Which alot of us do.
