Last year you may remember that I grew a 5 month beard before going to Alaska. I ultimately trimmed it up and even shaved it off since then. So now that I start a new job at Boeing on Friday, I figured that I can get away with growing out my beard to a 6 month length or possibly even a terminal beard, unless it is a safety concern. But at the least I would love to grow a beard like fellow bald, (but not sly) guy, Dr Andrew Weil. So here is a pic of my Alaska beard and a couple of Dr Weil.
-
I don't know how you could bring yourself to shave off that great beard. I couldn't.
-
I shaved it off because I was desperate to find a new job A better job meant more to me than keeping the epic beard. But now I get a chance to do it again. I am hoping to keep it this time. Or if I trim it down, I may not go short but to a thicker, medium length
-
Marsh, that's a keeper! I hope mine can be half as thick as that....but if I can get it a little wider, I can live without the thickness...in your case, it was worth the wait!
-
That is pretty epic! Not sure mine will get that big but who knows?
-
Glad to hear your back on the beardwagon... I love seeing pics of your epic beard, and I am sure that this one will be just as epic!
-
If things don't work at Boeing you sure could be a Santa.
-
Looks like the crew from "Duck Dynasty".
-
That was a fantastic beard, indeed. Understandable why you had to shave it, but I'm sure it wasn't easy... Hope to see it return in full swing! O0
-
Glad to hear your back on the beardwagon...
Beardwagon. That's a great expression, Beardman.

Thanks! I was quite proud of myself :*))
Although in reading your quote I realised in my haste I typed the wrong you're... I guess we can't be perfect all the time!
-
Well, here is my beard at over 4 months old. I would at least like to keep it at this length. I know some people in my life don't like it. But now my job is not a issue. I am hoping to at least grow it out a couple more months. Maybe even more. But I do like the fact this it is not looking shaggy yet. Although I do admire the terminal length beards that are shaggy. But don't know if I could do that myself!
-
Very nice, Marsh!
-
Wow that's awesome!
-
really cool ! Love the pure white , keep going. O0
-
That's a seriously awesome beard, marsh. I'm very much jealous, as I sit here with my 5 day scruff lol
-
Fantastic, marsh! I wish mine would grow out like that.
-
I love it, I can't wait until I get to 4 months growth on the sides!
-
Well guys....I have no new pics to post yet. But I am now over the 5 month mark. I have NEVER let it get to a 6 month length. I am liking the contrast between the big beard and the sly noggin. I just wish that I had grown my beard long when I first went sly about 15 years ago. I think a dark beard and a bald head looks quite fierce! But now I look like a bald Santa! But I am tempted to let it go a year! Again...we will see if I am that patient! Now....if I could only afford a Harley! I think I am looking more biker like! But I am really a teddy bear inside!
-
O0 Looking good guys ! Marsh I bet yours has really grown ! O0
-
Dude, that is a stupendous beard. I am GREEN with envy. I just can't cultivate one like that. Keep going! You must!
-
I can't wait for new pics Marsh, I bet you're beard is looking spectacular now!
-
Well, here is my beard at 6 months! I am really liking the look. I love the contrast with the bald head. I am even kind of enjoying the whiteness of it! We will see how long I will let it go!

Indeed we have a new Santa here ! O0
-
Epic indeed!
Love the width you have on it. And of course the color.
-
Amazing. You'd hardly have to dress up at Xmas.
-
Lookin good Marsh, I really do like the look of a nice white beard. I'm another one to vote on letting it grow for longer. Lets see how far you can get!
-
Nice going, Marsh! O0
-
Well, here is my beard at 2 days shy of 7 months old. Plus, I did not fluff it up this time. But even with that, you are seeing that it is getting large and bushy in a controlled way so far! This is the longest I have had my beard in recent years. I do know this is the longest I had it while sly. But the way I am going, I think I might try to let it go for a year!
-
It's coming along nicely!
Hold off for the yeard.
-
Lookin good Marsh! I'm a few days away from 5 months myself O0 You are so close to the yeard now you may as well go for gold!
-
Looks good Marsh. I assume you are keeping the mustache trimmed. Have you thought about a handlebar to go with that massive beard? Also, it appears very even, do you trim the stray hairs?
-
Beards are awesome! I am working on a circle beard (goatee with mustache) but too small to post...will post a pic in a few months when it is worthy.
-

I have only trimmed the sideburns so far. I have trimmed the mustache a little so I don't chew it. But while I have thought of the handlebar, I don't want to add extra work to get ready in the morning!

looks good

As I write this, I am at about a day shy of having a 8 month beard. I am really liking my beard now. I am actually liking the white in it. I wouldn't mind if it would go totally white. I love the texture. It is a bit wiry but growing somewhat controlled. I think it looks great with the bald dome. I am extremely tempted to keep it at least as long as I currently have it. But I am thinking that I want to try to go untrimmed until Christmas. If I had been able to do this years ago, I would have. I am also starting to get positive comments about it. I was at a wedding a week ago and two different beardless younger guys told me I had a awesome beard. Plus tonight I was entering a store while on the cellphone and saw a guy with a awesome beard. I am guessing the guy was in his late 50's to early 60's and had what I think was at least a almost terminal white beard. If I had not been on the phone, I would have given him a compliment. But he nodded at me as I passed. He was also MPB and would have rocked the sly look well! Anyway, here is my most recent photo!
-
Again still looking great!
-
I am also kind of thinking that I am looking more like Dr Weil. I would love to have a picture with him! Now if we could get him to shave off the fringe!
-

I like the shaping in that black and white picture. That's a great beard!
-
That is great news Marsh, congrats on making it to the 8 month mark! I can't wait to see what you'll look like if you last until christmas O0
I'm a day away from my 6 months of having a full beard myself!
-
Really want to try for an epic beard but scared to commit. Have thought about it a few times since I joined, the most I have managed is 4 months....see attached....perhaps time to go for it!
-
I wouldn't mind if it would go totally white.
Eventually it will. :D Keep going, it would be a shame not to see it through after having invested so much time in it. You'll regret it if you don't.

Good Lord, F77 that is filling out. Keep going.
On Friday, I caved in and went to the barber's. He didn't take that much off. Nobody seems to have noticed.
-
The pic at 4 months is from before I trimmed a few months ago and wish I hadn't...probably not far off that now though....I am tempted to keep going this time, hoping I can. Sort of want see what a bigger beard will look like on me!
-

Only one way to find out. Let curiosity get the better of you. :)
-
I know there will be good support from the guys here, so I am thinking I should go for it O0

If your work life and personal life allow it, I would go for it. I am loving my 8 month beard. Really, I do think that big beards really compliment sly noggins!
-
Thanks marsh, I am thinking it is something I have to try at least once to see how it looks...
-
I do think that big beards really compliment sly noggins!
I agree wholeheartedly!
-
Have been thinking about it alot at the moment, similar to when I first went sly. I think I will just have to give it a try and find out.
-
Here is my beard at 9 months!
-
Looking good, Marsh; Keep it up!
-
Looking good Marsh! Getting close to that yeard now :D
-
Here is my current pic from yesterday's 10 month beardiversary!
-
It almost seems to me that the beard is not getting that much longer! I do like it as it is right now. So if it didn't grow longer, I am tempted to keep it as is. But I am getting more and more tempted to just let it grow! In recent days, I have run into more men who are sly with long beards. I was walking by a coffee shop and outside was this guy with a sly dome and terminal beard. But the neat thing about his beard, he controlled it by putting a small, but loose knot at the bottom. Anyway, he was a great sport about it and chatted for awhile. I could not take a pic as my phone battery was dead. Anyway, here you go!
-
Great lookng beard but I get hot and itchy just looking at it.
-

At this point you should just let it grow. You've come this far, why not see how much longer it will get? You're only two months away from a yeard. :)
If and when you do decide to change things up a bit, it would look really cool if you shaved your cheeks and left the goatee long.
-
Looking good. I agree with Razor about letting it grow. Why stop now?
-
Keep going, don't stop now!
-
I don't think I am going to trim it now. I actually would like to go until Christmas without trimming. I must admit that I am finally comfortable in my own skin to the point that I feel like doing it. Heck, maybe I will eventually get a Utilikilt to go with it! Even though I do not own a motorcycle, I am really tempted to get a Harley t=shirt! Probably no piercings or tattoos! Just not my thing, personally!
-
Looks terrific. I'm insanely jealous but I find every time mine gets to a certain length I can't stop myself trimming it especially on the sides.
-
Mr. Nuts, as I have heard said (and it has worked for me), when you get the urge to trim, give yourself 24 hours to think about it before taking any action. You will usually come to your senses and leave it alone, or at least do much less trimming. If after 24 hours you still think you need to butcher it, go ahead.
No offence to the guys that prefer a closely trimmed beard. But if you are jealous of an epic beard such as the one Marsh is cultivating, no better time than now to go for it.
-
I now finally have a Yeard!!!!!!!!!!
I am at least going to go untrimmed, except for cleaning up things like the mustache. I really don't like that getting in my mouth! But I am at least going to do it through Christmas. But I am really tempted to permanently just keep the beard long and go terminal. Or course, the dome is going to stay sly! But truly, this is undetermined! But here is the pic of my Yeard!
-
Congratulations!
-
Very cool, marsh. You need to update your avatar!

OK....Bear....is this better? ;)

Love it! ;)

Looks great, Marsh!

Recently I made a trip to Vancouver and had two beard related encounters. First, while bicycling along the Stanley Park seawall, I overheard a conversation about having to shave off a beard. I turned around and there was this young guy with a great beard. So I ended up talking to him and found out that his employer was going to make him shave off the beard. This guy works for the city. I don't think it is a city policy, but just a jerk of a boss. But it turned into a nice conversation about beards. No, this guy was not sly or even losing hair.
The second encounter was while I was walking along the waterfront. Two young guys passed me by and started shouting, "Fear The Beard.....Fear The Beard!!!!!". I turned around and laughed. Then I said, "Thanks for the compliments dudes!". Funny I did NOT think I looked like Brian Wilson or could play baseball! LOL! ;D
But I guess that I now have a beard that is getting to be noteworthy! I have to admit that I like it!
-
Let it grow into a wizard beard.

EPIC man just epic...
-
That is a wonderful beard Marsh my bearded borther! I'm glad you made it to the yeard, At the end of this month I will legitimately have a yeard myself, although the goatee part is well easily over 2 years growth :D
I'm glad to hear you are thinking of going to terminal too, it's funny how once you get to this point you just figure, why stop now :D
Keep it up, I love it :D
-
Well today is my 16 month mark with the beard! I am still loving it! Right now I still would like to go terminal with the beard. I am rally liking the contrast between the bald noggin and the long beard and digging the grey. I just need to get a Harley and some biker duds and the look will be complete! LOL!
-
Beard looks awesome. Like the North Pole shirt, too ;)
-
Looking good marsh, keep growing and posting updates.
-
Well, I should let you know that the Epic Beard journey ended about 3 weeks ago. I am now sporting a short neatly trimmed beard. I suspect that sometime that my permanent look will be the shaved head and terminal beard and that I would only trim the sides. I may eventually want to enter a beard contest. But something inside me felt that I should trim it down. Anyway I am cool with having the short beard right now. Besides, it is about being comfortable in your own skin......right? So here is my 18 month pic!
-
I prefer a short beard but your was magnificent. :@`
-
So do we get a photo of the trimmed beard? I trimmed as well at the 12 month mark, but not short, just enough to even it up. I am still at about 4 inches.
-
Truly epic, marsh!
For me, I also trimmed down. It's that time of year to go from full beard to the Van Dyke.
-

It is? :o. I didn't get that memo. ^-^
And I agree -- we need a picture of Marsh's new look.
-
Well, it is for me. ;)
And yup, a marsh photo is requested!

We had snow here today. :(
-
I am having trouble posting photos tonight. So if we are lucky, you will see on pic with a medium trim and another with a more major trim!
-
OK....here is what I look like today!
-
I like the medium trim best.
-
You can carry off the beard at any length, marsh.
-
Major trim looks great O:O
-
All good, but I like the "in between" length best.
-
Wow, Marsh! Both trims look great. I bet you feel terrific.
-

Bear, thanks for the compliment! O0. I feel that I pull off both looks well too!
