Some guys just never can grow a beard.
For me, when I was in my 20's it took a LONG time to grow anything. It grows in quicker and thicker as I get older. Now at nearly 60 ... It's there. (Well, it's been there for some time. Started current beard at 28). My beard is much better now than when younger.

Everyone has to start somewhere :D

I can.. I just shaved first at 19, and I used to shave once every 2-3 months ( there wasn't much to shave... ), and I now avoid shaving it off, Don't wanna be a daily face shaver later

mrzed - I'm one of those guys who can never grow a beard.
I tried to grow a goatee once and it more closely resembled peach fuzz than actual whiskers.

I've had a thick beard since a teenager and always thought I was cursed.

It's a myth that shaving often causes your beard to either grow faster or come in thicker. Don't let that worry you if that's a concern.

It's what we call, "an old wives tale", Paul...a myth. Now you have no excuse not to shave your entire body. And also it will help you to swim faster if the give you a swimming test.

Same here. I started shaving when I was 13 and let my first full beard and mustache grow in when I was 14 or 15. Sometimes I think about letting grow in again but I don't think the combo of grey facial hair with black eyebrows and shiny dome would look right.

Myth. Not been proven.

I turned 40 in March and can now grow a full beard and tash should I choose, only it's got loads of grey in it now!

Beard..... No problem here. It's been growin' strong since mid-teens.
