Title: Winter Remedies
Post by: leighmundo40 on September 17, 2012, 01:01:21 PM
Hey guys.

It's just starting to turn cold here in the UK, nights are drawing in etc etc.

I suffer pretty much all Winter from coughs and colds. Anyone got any tips that they use to avoid Winter illness, either holistic or medicine wise.

Im taking a whole heap of vitamins, so many that I rattle!

I agree...eat healthy foods and take your supplements... no diet sodas, processed foods and limit salt and sugar. Have you studied the positive effects of organic apple cider vinegar?

I think the ideal scenario is three months in the Caribbean.  ^-^

Yea! Reserve a table at Sunny's beach front bar on, Nevis. There's great people watching, good food, cold Carib beer, your choice of shade or sun and Sunny will personally hail a taxi for you if you're unable.

Colds are viral--and most are believed to be caused by rhinoviruses.  These thrive in the nose & nasal passages.  How do they get there?  The most commonly known path is by your own hands, think how many times a day you put your hands to your face and nose.  So, it has been suggested that keeping your hands clean, numerous washings with soap and water throughout the day will minimize the possibility of getting the rhinoviruses that you pick up on your hands from door knobs, hand rails, what have you, to your nose where they can multiply & make you sick.  In the absence of hand washing, the preferred method, hand sanitizer can also help.

Find a way to get regular exercise during the winter months.  If you maintain an exercise regimen, your body is more capable of fending off illnesses.

As I sit here at my desking sneezing and snuffling I thank you for your advice!

I work with the public in their homes and in schools, and they arent the most high class type of places, so I do think I pick up a lot of stuff from there, I have anti bacterial gel in my car..forget to use it!

Going to up the fruitage  intake! I took echinacea last year as it was THE thing to take to ward off colds...naaaah!

I have used Vick's First Defence with some success.
First sign of snuffles, squirt some of that up your nose.

The odds are against you getting through the winter...even if you double up on fruti, 'C' and Echinacea. Go to the BWIs for 3 months.
