Title: I've lost my shaving "Mojo"
Post by: Mikekoz13 on August 30, 2012, 06:36:18 AM
Have you seen my shaving "mojo"... because I've lost it.

The last two shaves I just have NOT gotten good shaves. Missed spots, a couple nicks, terrible lather, and shaves that just aren's very close.
How in the world did this happen??!!?? I was getting the greatest shaves ever.... and then... PPFFFTTT!!! .... gone!

So... if you've seen my shaving "mojo", grab it and mail it back to me. I can't go on like this!!

It happens to the best of us. I had a few bad shaves recently. I felt like I was cheating on my Merkur but I went back to my HB and SH5 for a day or two. Those days on easier razors let my wounds heal and also reminded me that I do know how to shave well and can give myself a decent head and face shave.

Don't get discouraged Mike and remember that it's a process to become proficient with a DE. Also proficiency with a DE on your face doesn't always translate to proficiency on you head in my experience. The two surfaces and how you approach them with a sharp piece of steel are totally different. Hang in there.

Mike,

I think it ran off with mine!  I'm sitting here noticing a sandpaper-like feel on the crown of my head and a couple missed spots in the back.  Smoothness eluded me this morning...

Y'all know that we're coming up on a full moon, tomorrow? And it's a "Blue Moon", too.  Could be bad medicine for shavers. O:O

Same here. I was enjoying a good long run of awesome shaves and then yesterday I developed a zit due to an ingrown hair and today I somehow managed to give myself two cuts that were miniscule but sure did bleed a lot. Bad headshaves are the sly guy's equivalent of a bad hair day.   :-[

I'm going to shake my fist at the Shaving Gods this weekend. I'm leaving for camping at noon tomorrow. No shave for me until Monday afternoon!! (Well unless the wife says, "You need to go shave".).

Take that Shaving Gods!!!

Excellent plan! And don't let the Blue Moon shine on you and don't get skeeter bit.

have you changed your technique lately? if so, it may be because of that.

I think it's because the 15 hour work days have caught up to me and I'm just worn out. But the weekend is here!!!

Mike,

No one is on their game 100% of the time. We all have slumps in many aspects of our lives now and then. Relax and don't think so much about it. Your "mojo" will return in time... Abstaining from shaving while you are camping may be just the break you need.

Hi Mike:  No worries my brother... even Michael Jordan has missed shots and he is considered the greatest of all time.  In the mean time... I just magically sent you some of my shaving mojo so it is all good! ;)

I agree with this.  About 3 weeks ago I posted about having one of the worst shaves ever.  Had 4 or 5 nicks on my head from the DE and my neck looked like I shaved it with a rusty spoon.  I took a break for about 4 days and let my wounds heal.  Came back and still had a bad shave, but not nearly as bad.  I think I was just overthinking it and trying too hard for the perfect shave.

Mike, it just may be time for a change-up in your routine. Try a different razor, or cartridge. I am always rotating with different razor's, and I think it will help if you do too. Try your good old M5, will ya!  ;)

I hate to break it to you Mike, but you need to give up sex until you find your mojo again.  It's just like baseball.

Oh no....   I guess I'll just have to watch innocent movies and read sex into them instead.   ;)

We've all been there Mike, it's shitty. Nothing worse than nicking yourself, it really gets me down lol but then I man up. Let it heal and go again, take your time and take care

Mine went AWOL for a few days, too, until I realized I was trying to get through it too quickly. It was just a matter of backing off and letting myself take as much time as necessary to get the job done.

<sheepish grin>

Apparently the Mojo has converged here in Central Florida as the last two days I have had the bestest, smoothest shaves since I started. Shinier and Flawless(er) than a freshly waxed floor.

If it's here for the winter, you're in for a long spell ...

If it's moved south for the winter, it could have at least waited for the first cold blast here in the Northeast!!!
