Title: Scotty's Ride ... Please read this
Post by: Mikekoz13 on August 27, 2012, 02:20:59 PM
First.... I want to THANK Tyler for letting me post this on the Forum. I cleared it with him first. This cause is VERY near to the hearts of the "Koz" Family.

My wife Cheryl and I are pretty heavily involved with a local Motorcycle Ride/Charity named "Scotty's Ride". Scotty Harbuagh was a young local boy that passed about 5 years ago from a terminal illness. You can read all about the ride and Scotty here: http://www.scottysride.org/#!__home

Cheryl and I donate time, money, door prizes, and anything else the ride needs us to do. This ride is run strictly by volunteers and everything is either donated or supplied at cost to the Ride. The Ride is a Poker Run but every year the winners of the Poker hands donate their winnings back to the Ride. There is a big after party with a band, gambling, food and beer. A celebration of Scotty's life and a job well done by our community. People that win the gambling hands always donate the money back. The band donates it's time, all food is donated (yes, enough to feed about 300-400 people), and even the beer is supplied by a local small beer store at cost.
Every single dollar raised goes back to the charity. In the first 6 years Scotty's Ride has donated $50,000 dollars to local Families that have children with terminal illnesses. The money is donated to help offset unpaid medical costs.
The Ride is the last Saturday in September every year. About 225 motorcyles escorted thru town by the police and sent on our way to an amazing day.

So I was PM- ing with another member over the weekend (I won't say who just yet... he may not be comfortable with that), told him about Scotty's Ride and that quick he offered to send a donation. I want to thank that member sincerely from my heart.

So I started thinking what a great thing it would be if I could walk up to Kerry and Valerie (Scotty's Great Aunt & Uncle that organize and run the event) on the day of the event and hand them a handful of checks from SlyBaldGuys all over the Country. Making it even a little ironic would be the fact that Kerry (at 57 years old) has the greatest hair you've ever seen AND he cuts hair for a living. He would ROAR with gratitude and at the irony of it all.

So... I'm asking, very gently for donations for this extremely worthy cause. If I've ever made you smile with a comment, get pissed at a comment, or just made you go "What in the world is he talking about?"... I ask that you think about sending a small donation. If I've given you some advice that you found useful, sent you some shaving trinket in the mail, or PM'd with you for any reason... I ask that you consider sending a small donation. If you just want to help out some very sick kids that really got a terrible hand in life... I ask that you consider sending a small donation.

You don't have to send much.... whatever you can spare... a handful of small donations will add up quickly. I know times are hard for a lot of folks but these children and their families have been devastated financially simply because of fate.

If you WOULD like to donate, please PM me and I'll send my snail mail address to you. Checks should be made to 'Scotty's Ride". On the memo line write "From a Friend at SlyBaldGuys".

I'll take photos and video of any presentation of checks/cash from SBG that get presented to Kerry and Valerie at the event. I'll send those photos or video to all who donate.

Thanks for considering this guys.... I really appreciate it

Mike

Sounds good, Mike....I'm not a fan of writing checks too much, but can I send a money order?

Many thanks to the guys that have stepped up so far!!

I'll reiterate here.... Every dollar donated goes directly to the charity to help offset medical bills for the families of these kids with terminal illnesses.

I'll ask again.... if you can afford to make a donation, please PM me for my snail mail address.

See my follow up thread for a head count on the number of pledges.

Thanks again!
