Title: +- 1.5 weeks in bearding...
Post by: Trac3 on August 25, 2012, 06:27:58 PM
Hey,

I started to grow a beard +- 1.5 weeks ago just to see what I can do with it.. I plan on growing it for 1-1.5 weeks before I start to do something with it and see if any beard look good on me. Some suggestions might be useful tho.. I don't really know if my beard grows well however it's better than most of my friends at this age but not sure if it's a good coverage at this point in my life... Pics below. :)

Need to get rid of my double chin... :D

P.S. I am using old phone camera to take these pictures and lighting screws things up a bit...

I think you've got good potential with that. Give it some more time.

Looks good dude.

I'm (obviously) a fan of facial hair as I sport my own. You have good growth there. Maybe experiment with a goatee of sorts?

You have a round face (like I do) and I have found keeping it trimmed and shaved off the neck, and shave and trim it down on the cheeks, also works well for a round face. Reason being is it adds more definition to the face. I have yet to try a goatee or patch on my chin, but I do intend to. :)

Overall, I say it looks good. Experiment with it. :)

You certainly have some real potential going on there, let it grow out for a few weeks and have a think about what style you want to settle on, you'll work out what's best for you.

Yep, that is a reason I am growing beard. To experiment if some beard style suits me.

Will definitely try what you are having now Extol. :)

Give it at least three months before making a final decision. Are you going to let the mustache grow in?

Three months is a long time, not sure if I can afford it but will keep it as long as it doesn't couse any problems.

As for the mustache. No, I can't stand a felling of having one... :D

Believe this--you will never have a long enough patch of no "important" business meetings to get a beard to the mature level--that doesn't happen.  But it's what's in your head, not on it or your chin, that matters.  If you're well prepared everyone will understand the start of a beard--unless they're ignorant or "anti-beard" and then it won't matter what stage your facial hair is in.  Dress neatly, conservatively, prepare for the meeting and show the preparation, and wear that chin mitten like a proud, bald man.

Patch was about my head hair which I talked in this thread: http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=17959.0

However I guess you are right about everything else.. :) Thanks for an advice. I have decided to grow my beard until the trip through Europe. Then I will see if I can make something I like with it or it will have to go away.. :)

I am sure that in that time you will find something in that time, if facial hair is for you, that is.

Let your beard grown untrimmed for another month. Then consider having a barber trim and shape it for you.

Like people have said above, you really need to commit to growing a beard. I tried a few times but allways got to about 4 weeks and thought it wasn't working very well, was a pit patchy and scruffy looking and shaved it off. Turns out this was just an initiation test the beard is putting you through, I've sinced risen to the challenge and the beard has embraced my face!! I've found it takes aboute 3 months untill the beard is sitting pretty and comfortable on its new home.

I started about a year ago on mine, I had a job interview earlier this year and shaved it off and really didn't like my face without it so I grew it all back (after much grovelling to the beard). I know much prefer myself with it and if any job interviews etc. crop up I shall be taking the beard along with me for support.  :x!

Agreed.

Great beard there, Gearhead. Do you shape it ?

Have you thought about shaving your head smooth rather than buzzcut ?

I actually went sly this morning!

The beard is usually more trimmed and shaped but as I have some time off from work at the moment I'm just letting it do it's own thing!

Are you enjoying your new sly look and feel ?

Been wearing a beard now for about 4 months. It's an enjoying experience of experimenting with shape and length !

Going from a no guard buzz to the sly so it's not really a big leap look wise, I'm getting used to the physical feel of it tho  ;D

Beards are great, really suit a bald head I reckon, without it i feel like I have too much skin on show if you know what I mean, like a big egg on top of my neck!! I've had a goatee for over 10 years, but only the full beard for a year, I thought it was just going to be a winter thing but it's hung round.

Only annoyance is I work repairing slot machines for a living in bars and clubs and it seems to attract idiots who feel the need to say stuff like "hey, your head is on upside down!" (mildly amusing the first 5 times!!), or, "are you a terrorist??".

Gearhead,

That's a good bald and bearded look on you. Suits you well.

It takes a little while to get used to the smooth sensation on your head.

I went bald first. And then added the beard a couple of months later. Think the two go together. Looking back when I was just bald only, it did make me look like an egg ! Beard adds character.

Don't worry about the beard and balded comments. People have joked about me being a terrorist too !!

Mind you, been able to travel abroad several times on my 9 year old passport trouble free.
