Title: Pomegranate Juice
Post by: Frontier Guy on August 25, 2012, 07:21:03 AM
Anyone using this on a regular basis as a supplement?

Comments, suggestions, benefits, side effects?

Other than the natural sugar/calorie content I've read only amazing things. But I figure the Sly Guys are more likely to have a balanced view based on personal experiences.

Anyone?

Yea its an antitoxin property supplement..
Supplement because it is not raw or fresh.
The juice you buy has been heated and pasteurized.
This process weakens the full effect because it kills the
Natural enzymes along with any bacteria ..

I myself cut the pomegranate and process them through
a juicer ....
I'll juice most any hard texture fruit or vegetables
Apple is a great sweetener as well.

The best foods are raw of course.
Due to the living enzyme that has not been destroyed.
Your digestive system can now process these elements
efficiently resulting in instant energy.

Side effects usually result in the overindulgent of vitamins and minerals

@Free at Last: I agree with you.

The fruit itself is very healthy: it contains antioxidants, plenty of Vit. C, Vit K, B and E.
If you prefer the juice, then go for a fresh prepared juice.

I drink the stuff from a carton, though now Ive read other posts, it seems a bit pointless! I find it a bit musty tasting, so usually mix it with something like cherry or blueberry juice.

Ive not noticed any huge improvement in my energy levels!

I drink Pomegranate Juice or Raspberry Cranberry juice for balanced nutrition and I like their individual tastes.  Keeps me young looking  but has not grown any hair on the top of my head !  :*))

Try the POM brand its a little more pricey but it's the best tasting in my opinion,I pick up 5 bottles a week along with my Kombucha can't live without them along with my morning blended fresh fruit and vegetable drink.

Agreed. I picked up several brands and POM is by far the better and most pleasant tasting.

Interesting, also, that although they are all 100% pomegranate juice there is a difference in calories/nutrition - particularly sodium.

It might depend on the recipe, on the additives used.

I would go with the brand that has the least amount of sodium, but the taste is important too.

Funny that this is a topic, because I was at Whole Foods this weekend picking up some items, and picked up a jar of Pomegranate juice. The taste is delicious, extremely good for you, BUT BE WARNED....It acted as a laxative to me, literally a CLEARANCE sale inside my body.

I can't remember the brand, but it was organic at Whole Foods (like that helps any).

I did google it's laxative properties whilst on the John, and did find that it's a hell of a laxative, so..if you're first trying it out, be cautious, but above all, be near a toilet.

I probably drank too much. I had about 2 glasses of the stuff. I will check the bottle later. It is 100% Juice, I know that, maybe it's mixed with prunes who knows! Either way, it was ridiculous.

I have been seeing a Pomegranate Pkg. advertised over TV that you add it to water and it is suppose to be good.  Anyone else heard or tried this?  I have a problem drinking straight water.  I am sure that I am not only one . ;D

Haven't seen it.

I find there is a big difference between the refrigerated juices and the "on the grocery shelf" brands. And although I quite like pom juice, it's a bit overpowering - so I mix it about 50/50 with water.  Very refreshing.

I wouldn't use juice at all, any juice.
Not good for liver and metabolism period.

If you believe in pomegranate, and want to try it anyways, I'd recommend to at least put it in the blender together with some high fiber fruits/foods.
But again the fructose alone isn't ideal from a health standpoint.

Stick to the basics:
basic multi
fish oil
protein from lean meats and fish
fats from nuts and olive oil (uncooked)
carbs from rice, oats, potatoes, sweet potatoes
as many vegetables as you want
zero to low caloric hot sauces and dips like mustard, tabasco, chilli, etc...
celtic sea salt

Done...
