Title: A nurse sure made my day
Post by: Bolohead on August 18, 2012, 02:11:10 AM
Well I've been home from the hospital since Thursday evening.... same day surgery  :/O  Get you eating and some liquids down you and out the door you go......

Anyway, while being rolled by a surgical nurse to the OR, she commented that she loved my shaved head  :@`

It made my day.. but I was soon asleep after they got me into OR.... woke up in recovery and missed all the fun  :*))

Oh that sucker hurts now.

On a serious note... the doctor said I need to pay attention to strict advise on what I can and can not do from here on out.... this is the 2nd hernia in the same place at the navel, he said if you blow this one out, we may not be able to fix it.  O:O  Okay so I can't lift anything over a gallon of milk weight for 10 weeks, then after that no strenuous activity, strenuous lifting, getting hit at the navel etc etc etc.

BTW this makes #11 hernia... gonna get a T-Shirt made that says... "11 Hernia Repairs and Counting"

Best wishes for a "quick" recovery - which, apparently, is about 10 weeks in your case.

Good luck on recovery !  I had groin hernia / hospitalized when I was 10 years old.   Well, I had  hair (very short crewcut) back  then and nurses tried complimenting my haircut as this was my first hospital stay and I was terribly homesick !

11 hernias, my god man, what are you doing to yourself.?

It all started back in 1993 while in Cumberland, Maryland.... by lifting 2 tire casings for the 18 wheeler 11R22.5,295/75R22.5.. about 175 lbs ea that the company insisted I bring home on my flatbed deck.

They were all kind of stoked up on Same Day Surgery... as promised I told them I would bring some signed footballs (little rubber ones) that were signed by Lex Hilliard who played for the Montana Grizzly Football Team #38, then was drafted by Miami Dolphins #26 and now is playing for Minnesota Vikings #38  Lex is my nephew by a marriage my father in law had.

So we are pretty proud of him.

Here is Lex carrying the ball in a game just 6 days ago with the SF 49ers

That'll do it. Too bad there were no fork lifts available.

J_B,
Glad all went well with your surgery. Hope that you don;t have any more hernia's I have never had one yet but know they are no fun.

Your nurse had good taste complimenting you on your good looking dome.! You may not be able to lift much for awhile but you can keep your dome looking good.

Good luck to you. Hope you have a quick recovery.

Mahalo Nui Loa (thank you very much) as I am feeling much better, less sore... but must remember to still take it easy as the doctor stressed.  Getting a bit fuzzy on top, gotta shave today  O0

J_B, I wish you a full recovery and make this the last hernia;
It's always nice to get positive comments, good for you and for the nurse too; she really must have liked the look otherwise I don't think she would have said it out loud.

I've only had two hernias myself and that's a plenty. Good luck, "J_B".  O0

Aloha,

Glad to hear you are on the mend. I have a hernia in my ab area but the doc said we won't try to remove because of probs pulling stomach muscles together. I lived on Maui for three years...where do you live?

Mahalo for sharing your nurse story, the Bald Kahuna, Allen Cox

Get well,how does one get 11 ?????

You see back in 1993 it started in Cumberland MD... I had to bring back two semi trailer tires off the rim that blew out the sidewalls.  These weight 175 lbs ea... well I stooped down, to use the new tire on the rim as support then put the tires on the empty trailer deck, strapped them down... and felt the worse burning in my lower abdomen I have ever felt.

I headed for my next load in Kansas, then delivered the load in Pipestone MT and then home.  I went to see a doctor, and he gave me the news.. you have two bi-lateral hernias on the groin.. and you have to umbilical hernias... had the surgical repairs done several months apart... then 6 mo later it all blew out again.

Okay went back for more surgery, this time they meshed the 4 hernias for a stronger support.... then I got a different umbilical hernia again....had that repaired, then again and a had that one repaired at the VA Hospital in Helena... then of course that last repaired one even though they used mesh to repair it.. blew big time

So which leads us to this last repair.... I have been advised to be very careful from here on out.
