I've recently started shaving my head and i've aquired some unsitely red bumps on my scalp and i'm not sure what it's direct cause is. I use a headblade sport and headblade shave lotion but i'm still getting these annoying marks.

First off, welcome to Sly Bald Guys!! Some of the guys here use ClearHead by HeadBlade. Are you using any lotions or anything after you shave? You may want to try running cold water over your head after shaving to close the pores.

I'm using nivea aftershave/bald guy moisturizer w/aloe. I also run my head under cold water after shaving. I hope that this is only a part of my scalps way of getting used to being shaved cuz i enjoy the feel of my shaved scalp....not to mention it helps me keep cool at the factory i work during those long unconditioned nights.

I tried cold rinse. I really did. But I just can't do it.
I use 70% alcohol instead. Yeah it'll wake you up. But no more than cold water.

Sensitive skin, regular shave gel, and a dull razor blade can cause bumps and irritation. Use a very lubricating shave gel (Bald Guyz works GREAT) and make sure you use a calming after shave (Bald Guyz Moisture Gel). No matter what you use, there is always irritation so you need to make sure that whatever you use really makes the shave smooth.

I've switched up from the HeadBlade products to a line from Neutrogena called "Neutrogena Men Razor Defense." They have a face wash, face scrub, shave gel, after shave lotion. They all work great. The shave gel and lotion help soften up the hairs to get a comfortable shave without any pulling on the skin. The after shave lotion works great to relieve redness, bumps, and any irritation. They also make a after shave lotion that contains 20 SPF in it which I use if I'm heading out for the day. The best part is it has a good smell to it that doesn't smell "girly." I usually wash my face and especially the dome everyday with the face wash before shaving. I'll switch up once or twice a week to the scrub to exfoliate and clean out the dirt really good. You don't want to use the scrub too much or you'll dry your skin out which can lead to some bad irritation. Also if you don't shower shave try that out because it really helps soften the hairs up.

Glad to hear that the irritation and red bumps are reduced. No matter what products we use, there seems to be a learning curve where we actually learn about the characteristics of our noggins and our hair - try different things until we come up with what works best for each of us.

I can say from experience the Neutragena Razor Defense stuff rocks. I had a similar issue but wasn;t sure it was razor bumps or just breaking out. Anyway I started using an exfoliator before shave, then the razor defense shave gel, then gillette aftershave gel. Not a fan of cold water but shaving against the grain was also helpful for me. anyways good luck

Great Tbone!! will have to try the Neutragena stuff when my Edge
gel runs out! Edge Gel for dry skin lubricates well for me!
But always trying something different!!!

Hey man, another good product, for me anyways, is Nivea for men sensitive shave gel and after shave balm. They both come in a white container. They work really well. The gel lathers up real good and the balm really takes care of any kind of irritation you might have. They also have a face wash that doesn't contain any soap or dyes so it won't dry you out. That's what I use to use way back when and what I'm going back to shortly after I use up this Neutro stuff up. The Neutro. is ok but it's a few bucks more than the Nivea stuff and I figure if the Nivea works just as good why pay the money?

Lance, I am having a tough time dealing with the irritation, I figured my head would just get use to it and would go away, but it seems to still be around. I have tried all different tyoes of products and just ordered TENDSKIN. I also did some research on the neutrogena products that you mentioned and according to reviews it states it relieves the irritation. Where do you go to get your supply? I am going to get some.

I found all the Neutro. products at various local stores in my area. One that had every type of Neutro. product was Target. Some others that may have only had one or two of the Razor Defense line might be Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Eckerd, Rite-Aid. Most stores should have the product. I've even seen them in some grocery stores like Farm Fresh. Then again I don't know if any of these stores are in your area. I have to admit it is a good product. Especially where the after shave lotion comes with spf 20. I mentioned in an early post how I was going to switch back to my Nivea stuff because the Neutro. costs a little extra...But every time I use the stuff it just works so good I think I might just pay the difference. Lance, thanks buddy, I do appreciate the info. I shave in the shower daily, and use HeadShed daily as well...I am going to get the neutrogena items that you referred and cut back on the exfoliating to twice a week...

No problem man. One other thing that I have cut out of my routine that I'm not sure if you do or not. But that is using rubbing alcohol or witch hazel after the shaving. I noticed it was drying my dome up a little too much. Plus I started thinking about it and figured it's not really necessary anyway because I'm cleaning my scalp before I shave so why use something else on it when I'm done shaving. Plus the Neutro. and most other products don't have things in them that will clog the pores anyway. But anyway, I stopped using the witch hazel which was a part of my routine after the shower shave and it has helped clear up all the drying and irritation of my dome. I do still run the dome under cold water right before getting out of the shower for about a minute or so to close up my pores.
