Hi!
It is a bit more complicated than the title says.
First off I had long hair for like 7 years and it was because I was going bald (was like 15/16 or so) but after that it really grown on to me. I really loved the long hair how the wind flows (a lot more things I just don't have words to explain it as english isn't my native language).
Then came the days when I started to get bald on my top which long hair couldn't hide and it really started to bother me. I looked bad in pictures etc.. Not that it matters but it brings me to the last part.
Today I shaved my hair (had a 0.7 whisky last night to get the confidence up - didn't help) and now... Well I really don't know.. Is this look good for me or should I grow my hair back and look for some help with doctors or hair transplants etc...
I don't really notice much that I have shaved my head as I spend most of the day behind a computer, but when I see myself in a mirror or in a reflection of any kind for that matter.. I see a different person..
Basically i would like neutral people thoughts on this matter.. Without knowing how I looked before.. Does shaving head fits me?
I would really appreciate some insight.. :)
P.S. This is my first shave (Was a bit scared so some spots might be unshaven at least with hand I can feel them)..

Welcome. Bald definitely suits you, and must be a huge improvement on the skullet you describe. Take the 30 day challenge. You won't look back. Keep us posted.
-
I will definitely keep shaving my head till the end of the month anyway. Just see how I fell about it but the main reason I did it is still the look, as more and more people start to tell me that I just don't look good in a camera and then I noticed that I started to tell that to myself and started to avoid them..
It really isn't that I am not a confident guy as I have done things that most guys might not even dream about, but that is the thing that mostly you can't see that in pictures.. All people see are the bald spots on your head.. makes me laugh now when I say it. :D
I will try to keep you guyz posted :) and maybe even become a real member of community.. However I wan
t honest answers in this topic.

We at SBG.com will ALWAYS give honesr opinions. Most of us have been through the mill of mpb and know only too well the feeling of hopelessness, followed by the elation of that first shave, and then the doubt - "have I done the right thing?" "Does a bald head make me look like an idiot?" "I wonder what people are saying behind my back?"
Taking the 30 day challenge is not just about getting used to your new do, it's also about getting used to the new (and improved) you. If sly isn't for you, you can always grow it back.
Your pictures look perfectly normal to me. If I'd seen them elsewhere, the bald head wouldn't even have registered. It may be that I'm biased, but you look like a natural baldy. After a month, you will feel like you never had hair. I'm sure the other guys will chime in soon and offer more advice. All of it will be honest.
Good luck, bro.

You've got nothing to worry about for appearance. Even being just shaved one day, it looks great and natural.
I think, however, you are not comfortable to have shaved - I write that because you indicate your are more concerned about what others are saying.
Drugs, transplants or artificial hair are not solutions. They will temporarily hide the situation as long as you keep spending the money. Your scalp should not be demanding ransom from you.
So if the temporary and expensive options aren't the solution - what's left? Two choices: Balding or Bald.
You can be Balding and let your hair have control of your life, or YOU can take charge of your life and be Bald.
And since you look really good Bald, doesn't seem to me like there's much of a decision to be made.
It will be a surprise whenever you catch a glimpse of yourself in a mirror, but after 30 days you'll be totally comfortable with "that" guy.
Glad you're here. Stick around and contribute. Always good to hear how things are going for guys in their first 30 days. I wasn't there all that long ago.
Best thing I've done for myself in a long time.
-
Loved the feedback so far. :) Really encouraging :)
I am looking forward for more replies and I will keep this thread updated with information on how it is going for me being sly (new term for me, sounds cool ;))
-
It IS cool ;)
-
Trac, you look great.
Listen to the guys that have posted. You know you are getting the truth from us as we have nothing to gain from lying to you -- unlike people who will try to sell you on drugs or transplants or other "systems".
Give it the 30 days. In the unlikely event that you're not liking it, it'll grow back. You've got nothing to lose.
-
Welcome Trac 3.
You show some 'fur' on your back, so you might be able to grow a decent beard quickly. I always appreciate a beard with a bald head. They seem to go together. Just a thought.
You've not shown the before, but a bald head looks much better than thinning hair, so I'll say is looks great. Nice symmetry on the head. In a few days, you'll get the smoothness down pat. It will look even better.
You'll also get used to the look yourself. I still find myself spotting my bald head in reflective glass and I've been at this over 6 months!
-
Trac. You look a natural. Give it the 30 days. NEVER EVER consider hair systems or transplants. As Sly Bear says the only winners there are the charlatans selling their hocus pocus.
-
Welcome to the SBGs!
-
Everyone before me has said it like it is. I think the sly look really suits you. You said you feel some long spots still, but don't stress mate. You will be the only one that will notice them, unless they were to get close and actually looking for them haha. You will get better within a few shaves and soon you will get getting close to the perfect shave that we all love!
Best of luck with your 30 day challenge, feel free to jump in to the conversations, none of us bite... too hard...
-
You wear it well, Trac. Keep it up and welcome to the club.
-
Welcome to the bald brotherhood Trac. You have the head and face to carry the shaved dome really well. It is only a matter of time before you grow into the look. Shaved smooth is a lot better than thinning.
-
Looks pretty damn good pal. You sort of remind me of myself in terms of head shape/colour etc I think it looks slick. Now wear it with pride and begin to master your technique. You will have the sharpest most smoothest head in your city. Good luck
-
welcome. it's a keeper.
-
I agree with the guys sly suits you. You're a natural :)
-
Welcome, Trac! Looks good for a first time shave! I can't add on to what the others have said, but give it a go for 30 days....Sly HAS to be better than what you had before.....
-
Welcome and keep it shaved, it looks good.
-
Hey there Trac, welcome to this fantastic website!
I am not just saying this, but the Sly look really suits you.
The guys who posted before me have said everything already, and it is all the truth...
Do the 30 day challenge, it is a great personal achievement to overcome and it helps with the final decision...
-
Welcome Trac!!!
You look AWESOME!
Listen to these guys.
They are absolutely right in their choice of words.

Ok, so it has been 2 days now and another shave. I start to get a hang of shaving head but there are few problems I will get into more detail below.
One thing I noticed that I now notice people whit shaved heads. I guess it's something to do with what you are experiencing as I was balding I started to notice other people who were balding. Another thing is that for some people I just want to go to them and say "Shave your head it will look awesome".
I haven't been out much but when I am in a city, public transport etc.. I feel comfortable with myself and that is a good thing. :) However, yesterday it was 1 and 1/2 day after my shave I saw myself in a mirror and saw hair. They grow back so fast... Problem was that I wear a hat back home as I didn't like the look after not shaving..
One friend suggested that I try to use hot and wet towel on my head after shave as it slows down hair growth? True/False? Any other suggestions on this matter?
Answers to some of you guyz

Ya... That was always a problem with me being too hairy.. It is strange how it works that you are balding but hair grows in other places.. Beard wasn't an option for me before as I have pure black beard but light hair.. Now I might even try it after I get more used to sly look.
Trac. You look a natural. Give it the 30 days. NEVER EVER consider hair systems or transplants. As Sly Bear says the only winners there are the charlatans selling their hocus pocus.
The most important thing for me is to feel good by myself and if that means spending whole loads of money for companies then it's fine with me.. However I am really starting to dig this new sly look. :)

First one disagreeing with my look.. However sly look looks great on you. ;) Will see how it goes for me :)
Other questions
What do you do to prepare your head for shave? I use warm water for ~20 seconds and then just put on shaving cream and do the thing. Should I try something else? I don't see a point for a shampoo as I don't have hair to clean.. :D
I heard that racor last only for 4-5 shaves? That is true? As I bought Gillette Fusion (5 blades) and razors are very expensive for them.. Will have to change in that case..
Plans
I guess now I just have to try to shave my head every morning to get used to a process and make it a part of my day. Will try to get more fit, but that isn't related to sly look.. :)
Get out of my cave more often to get some tan on my head :D Hard thing to do when I often stay up all night and sleep in mid-day..
Thank you all for help so far. I think you made a big change here making me feel comfortable with the new look. :)
P.S. Sorry for the long reply as I was reading all of them just didn't have time to answer then.. :)
-
Trac, if you want a longer lasting shave, my suggestion would be to invest in a shaving brush and use that to apply your favorite shaving cream...Ever since I've started using the brush, my shaves have lasted longer. Once you become a veteran shaver, you can look into more advanced things such as different razors, shaving soaps, etc. I do want to apologize if I was offensive by jumping the gun and saying that what you had before looked bad when I haven't even seen it....I was just trying to say that sly might be better than losing sleep over thinning/balding hair that costs a fortune to get back. I wish you well in whatever direction you decide, good luck and keep us posted!
-
I wasn't offended ;) You just were the first person who told that sly look might not look good on me ;)
I have a shaving brush.. Tried it once when shaving beard and didn't like it.. Might be because I didn't know how to use it properly.. Will give it a go in a few days.
Just remembered one question that came in my head yesterday.
How do you shave top of your head? It almost seem like it is growing straight up and it's just strange shaving it.. Maybe because my thinning hair.. Don't know.. For start I am shaving with the grain but I might try against it in a few weeks when I am more comfortable shaving my head.
-
No, my statement was: Sly HAS to be better than what you had before...meaning that your shaved head looks better than a "skullet". Sorry if my previous posts came across wrong, your shaved head looks great! Try it for 30 days! As for the top of the head, many of us have that issue, it's going to take a little time to perfect it. Good luck!
-
Trac,
In the research that we have done, 73% of the people feel like they look like sh*t when they first shave their head. Its too shocking for the human psyche to comprehend at first. I agree with everyone else here in trying the 30 day challenge.
Good Luck,
Nate
-
It is shocking but I kinda dig my new look. Problem is when hair grows back.. :) Must agree that it is much better than what I had before :) Will post few pics with hair in a few days so you can compare if interested.

Shave everyday. If your finding it pricey to shave everyday, consider an electric balder/shaver. They give you a shave just as close as a razor if you get the right one. I don't use one as they irritate me.
-
Welcome Trac3,
Your pictures look good and you don't like the hair growing back.....you must already love being Sly? O0
-
Hi
Each day or at least each week you'll feel like shaving your head over and over again - who cares what others think as long as you are happy with it.
Welcome to the Bald community, pal. ;)

Will do. I will see how long my blades last and maybe switch to cheaper ones if necessary.
You must already love being Sly? O0
Looks like it... :D
Alright going for my third shave.. Will see how long I will be able to keep count.. :)
-
Hi Trac I am shaving my head since last year (May last year i think ??? )and you don't have to count ,but what you do need is to shave every or every other day (my opinion ;) bro )-you need routine O0 !
btw. looking good man !
-
My girlfriend dumped me "for hair- or lack off " also ,but you know what -that's hogwash -she just needed a reason so she gave me an ultimatum and i gave her the recycle bin O:O wash ;D O:O
-
It looks great Trac, great head shape. I know there are concerns, and it takes time to adjust, but it really is worth it. And just because I feel I have to make the point, no matter how much you spend, or how many pills you take, it will always be a burden and a lie to yourself, knowing that you are in control and only being yourself is the real freedom

That wasn't the reason but I agree with you. ;)

You might be right about not really being in control when using it all but I don't think much about it now since I became sly and started to love it. At least now I like it. I hope the feeling stays. :)

I'm glad to hear it and I'm sure it will my friend
