Hi guys,
I don't know if you remember me mentioning it, but I had a serious accident almost 9 years ago now, i spiral fractured and shattered my right tib and fib, requiring reconstructive surgery, plating and bone grafts over that time. I had my final surgery last year to remove some of the plating, and this morning, I had my final check-up, and have been discharged from the care of the orthopaedic surgery team. For the first time in almost 9 years, I am free from doctors, x-rays, regular hospital visits, and hey, I might even start being able to run again!
The surgery before last was the main cause of my hair loss, as I had a massive allergic reaction to the meds they pumped me full of, at first I was angry, but now that I've become a member of this community, and embraced the sly side of life, I'm actually I had that reaction, so thanks for making me feel so welcome and helping me out when I was down.
Peace,
Matt

Good stuff Slyfive
Hope you make a 100% recovery and that you can enjoy your running again...

Congratulations Matt, I know that is incredibly welcome news, and not having to focus on medical issues and maintenance will allow you to focus on more important things. Hooray for you!
But as you noted, in a way we are fortunate for your medical detour otherwise you may not have ventured into the World of Sly and this community.
Continued strength and recovery.

Congrats on your recovery Slyfive/Matt! I didn't know that this had happened to you, but the way you handled your hairloss is a classic example of how to make lemonade when you're handed a lemon....Thanks for sharing your story!
-
I hadn't heard your story, but I am glad to hear you are doctor free and well on your way to recovery, you will be running again in no time I am sure!
-
Thanks guys! I want to work up to running a marathon do I'll keep you posted. Thanks for being awesome!
-
Great news Matt!
As the Dad of a son that spent a LOT of time with doctors the first 7 years of his life, I know the relief that finally being free can bring!
CHEERS!

Congratulations Matt on making such a great recovery. With your positive attitude I'm sure you will have no problem reaching any future goal. And I understand your attitude toward the allergic reaction too. I was initially BBC but began noticing that if I allowed my hair to grow out there were these weird bald patches all over. Seems it is my body's reaction to meds I need to take every day. It was quite a shock to realize I no longer had a choice, but since I already belonged to this great forum of supporters it never became a big issue. Hang in there and let us know when you make that first marathon.

Congrats on your recovery and good luck with the running!

Congrats to you Matt. Some of us don't make it back. Be careful with the running. That is an awful lot of pounding on the bones and joints of the feet and legs.

@Tom I'm sorry to hear that you are still having trouble. At the moment I'm still physically unable to run for very long because of the pain of impact, but a man can dream.

You underestimate the quantity of beer in my house! My lady works part time at a liquor store.

Congrats, dude. With your awesome attitude, you'll be running that marathon before you know it. Tib/fibs are seriously crappy fractures.

Admirable job persevering through to recovery. Many people take good health for granted. Cheers.
