Hi all,
For the last four or so years, I've had a short #1 or #2 buzz cut (except for the past six or so months, where I grew my hair out substantially). While the weather is still warm, I figured I'd try shaving my head completely, because I've always wanted to do it. Although I like how agressive it looks, and will try to keep up with it for the duration of the summer, it may only be sporting the look for the summer. My hair is very thick, and grows very fast - shaving every day or every other day has become a time consuming process, and I've been doing this for less than a week!
Reactions have been primarily negative, focusing on the aggressiveness of the look, or the notion that being bald by choice is offensive to those who are losing/have lost their hair.
What do you guys think?

And yes, that is an original Beavis and Butthead shirt that I'm wearing.

I don't think it's "aggressive" at all. Nor do I think it is offensives to those who are losing their hair. You loon great. If you like it, keep shaving and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.
BTW, the amount of time it takes to shave will be reduced substantially as you be
come more skilled at it.

Looks great. Keep it up.

welcome. looks.....bald :)

Welcome to the bald brotherhood Ben. You look really good bald. I agree with what RazorX has said. It is not offensive to those who are losing their hair, I see it more as an inspiration for them to embrace the bald look.

Hello and welcome Skinny Jones
Well done for making the move. Personally I don't see Sly as aggressive at all. I see it as sensible and practical.
Good luck, whether you decide to grow it again or to keep it Sly.

Welcome mate!! Sly looks good on you! I started out exactly the way you have by being curious about being bald and found myself hooked!! Haven't looked back man (I'm BBC) and I'm sure you will too. When it comes to the way you look, it should be what you choose and not what others prefer you choose.

Welcome to the Sly side. I think the look suits you well.
Bald is just a hairstyle - how you are perceived depends on how you present yourself. Because you think it looks aggressive you may be (unintentional) presenting yourself as aggressive.
I've found the opposite to be true. Since I got rid of my gray hair I find people approach me more easily.
The daily shave time does decrease as it becomes routine. For me, it balances out against the time I don't have to spend driving to the barber, waiting for my appointment, time in the chair, etc.
I think it's a really good look for you - and in the photo I don't sense aggressiveness.
Enjoy the experience for the summer and decide where to go after that.

Welcome and good luck with whatever you decide.

Welcome Ben+Bald in the Beavis+Butthead tee-shirt ! You sport a manly look with sly. With a hotter than normal summer in parts of USA, it seems I see more BBC guys. Totally shaved bald is becoming a popular BBC haircut and hope you make it a summer routine, if not permanent. You are lucky to have that option. Sly Summer Shine !

I like it. Keep it up.

@stasiu, :*)) :*)) I mean I really laughed, plus your PP is really funny...

@waine, haha, thanks Waine ! I thought all bald men are suppose to have a sense of humour ?

Welcome to the brotherhood! It looks great.

Welcome! You look great! It is always difficult when the reactions are negative. I know this from my own experience. Did you shave your head again? Did you get positive reactions too? Like you I also buzz my hair to a #1 or #2. I plan on doing the deed before going on holiday.

Looks good and welcome. Don't let others get you down and do what you like. You have to wear it everyday. 8)

Thanks everyone for all the positive comments - much appreciated. I'm slowly growing into the look...I've gotten better reactions from my male friends, who wish they could take the plunge as well. I've actually been thriving on the negative ones, too! I've never been one to do things solely for the approval of others, and this experiment is reaffirming how important that is to me.
As I've been shaving more frequently, it's gotten more manageable. Certainly more time consuming than buzzing once or twice a week, but it's definitely a more noticeable look!

I week is hardly enough time to evaluate. Nor to pick up speed on head shaving.
I found that after a few weeks, the time spent shaving my head really shrunk. I'm BBC and generally can finish in 5-7 minutes but at first was more like 30-40.
So, it should get better.

Looking great, hope you'll keep the look for more then just the summer (but it's up to you).
Ben, I don't think that you should chose your hairstyle based on a pool or your friends' advices. This should be your decision and should make you happy (not them).
