I originally posted here roughly two-years-ago. It was a one-time deal; I put the whole "sly" thing on the backburner. I've progressively been cutting my hair into a shorter & shorter buzz along the sides and keeping it longer on top, thinking that it would, combined with the fact that I'm very blonde, would hide the generalized thinning on top. I even started to use Rogaine, hoping that it would thicken my hair enough that I could just maintain the buzzcut. It was helpful for about a year and a half. But, within the last six months, people started to actually comment. Hard on my self-esteem & self-confidence. I kept coming back to this site over that time, though, wanting to take the leap but instead putting it off with excuses, etc.
Well, I finally did it. I was shopping for new shorts today . The changing room had mirrors set up where I could see the back of my head. In the lighting, I could see a very clear-cut horseshoe ring where the hair on the top of my head is very fragile and thin while the hair on the back and sides is as robust as ever. No hiding this in the light. I instantly thought of this forum, bought the shorts, came home, took the guard off my clippers, and shaved it all off.
Not officially "sly" yet. There's more of a sandpaper thing going on, and I'm reluctant to take a razor to my dome... I have way more moles than I realized. Overall, this has seriously been one of the most liberating things I've ever done. I already feel a lot better about balding than I ever did. I'm really thankful for this forum and all you guys who post here. Definitely wouldn't have gotten to this point without it. So, thanks a ton!

Congratulations on taking charge of your life. I am still amazed at the surge of self-confidence which the simple act of de-hairifying unleashed!
You'll figure out how to deal with the moles and such. For the moment, just enjoy your awesomeness.

Hello there Logan. Congrats for tackling your horse shoe in the making.
I also had a lot of moles when I first shaved. I was a little concerned as it did not look pretty. In fact among the little ones there was this monster mole staring at me, right on my "Cows Lick" above my forehead. I went to a doctor, a normal General Practitioner, who burned the moles off. Two weeks later he burned more off. I need a few more finishing touches then I am done.
My point; don’t hassle about the moles if you want to take it all off. These can be removed painlessly.

The surge in self-confidence you will feel when you finally shave it smooth will amaze you. Just try it.

Welcome and good luck. It's a good idea to go ahead and have those moles checked to make sure it's nothing more serious.,]

Welcome, bald brother. I am (was) also blonde, and it makes the thinning much less noticeable than it is on guys with dark hair. But no-one can hide from bright light and a mirror! Congrats on taking the plunge. Don't stress about your moles, they can be sorted easily. Good luck, post a picture and let us know how you are getting on.

Just to add on to what Sir Harry said, the doctor sent a piece of the mole away to the lab for tests, which seems pretty much par for the course. The results came back with a green light, thank heavens. lastly, IMO I would not opt to have moles frozen off, that looks too sore. Burning is far better in my lay man's opinion.

Thanks for all the welcomes and kind words! It's been about a week since I took the spontaneous plunge, and I can say that it has been a good week! I feel miles away from that guy who was worried about his hair. Mixed reactions from co-workers, but none specifically negative. All good reactions from my family. We'll see what friends have to say. And the girl I've been dating is a fan! Her's was an interesting reaction for me, since she had stated years ago that she preferred men with dark, thick, and preferably long hair. Not quite my hair at all. ::) But! Her reaction to my new look? She found it ridiculously sexy because, as she told me, "it is really, really manly." I can't complain about that.
Made an appointment with a dermatologist just to have the moles looked at. Once I get that out of the way, and get the razor I ordered off Amazon O:O, I'm going to give shaving smooth a 30-day chance. Until then, the no-guard is working really well for me.

Thanks for the update.
I'm delighted - though not surprised - that it's all going well for you.
Continued success, and check back occasionally. Always good to hear great things from Sly guys!
