Title: Thanks from a newbie
Post by: Bucksfan on July 02, 2012, 01:08:00 PM
Well, yesterday I finally did it - shaved my head bald after thinking about it seriously for probably 3 or so years. Started with clippers and help from my wife.  Then, proraso and a Gillette sensor excel I've been storing for a number of years, followed by a little aftershave and lotion. I'm amazed that it wasn't that hard, and I survived without any nicks or bumps. Went to Costco today and stocked up on a number of mach 3s for the foreseeable future, or until I get the confidence to try it with my DE razor, that I use in my face.

Thanks to the host and all the contributors on this message board - I'm not sure my first time would have been such a success without all the tips and info on this board. I'll follow up with a pic once I get some sun on my noggin.

Edit: added a poor iPad pic as my avatar... But it's a start.

Hey, great move. (shave).  You don't have to wait for the dome sun tan to post a pix.  We expect to see a cue ball effect on a new shave.  LOL.

30 day rule, now.

Well done and welcome Bucksfan.

Before you stock up on any Match 3 blades, consider the Headblade.  It is highly recommended by many users here.

Looking Great !  Just try keeping other ladies from rubbing that sly melon !  Or better yet, start charging $5.00 for a two-hand rub and make some razor blade money  :D

Big day today - first day back to work and did a shower shave with the headblade sport and headslick.

Work went well - had a few double-takes and a few "why" questions, but overall positive comments.

Then, tonight, had a good workout and decided to try shaving in the shower with my new headblade. It gets much closer than my Mach 3 shaves have been thus far.  Plus, I didn't scalp myself. Impressive. got out of the shower and cleaned up around the ears. Best shave yet.   8)

Welcome.

Your new sly head is impressive.  And to be a financial advisor ... bald just fits.

Looking good. Keep it going. Eventually, you will lose track of how long you have been shaving daily.  O0

Thanks all, it was a great first week back to work - now at day 14 of being sly.  No cuts / gashes, and only a bit of irritation at the end of shaving 7 days in a row. (I was doing about every 36 hours during my first week).  Bump Patrol seems to work wonders.  Also, only a few eyebrow hairs suffered accidental shaving in the shower.

Most clients / professional contacts either said nothing (sort of weird if you ask me) or commented how great my new look was, or a couple times that they are close behind me, if they ever get the balls to do so.  I had one appointment where the client had a negative reaction at first (mostly shock I think) then by the end of our meeting said that she really liked my head bald, that it fit me well and I looked good.

I honestly can't say I got a negative reaction yet - a lot of shock and inquisitive looks, but no negative comments.  Easily over 20 positive comments.

On a side note, I spent a lot of time and energy putting a plan in place to get my head tanned approximately to the same degree of my face.  I tried to not get my face and neck tan for the 2 weeks leading up to the shaving date, took the following week off and spent a good amount of time in the sun - starting with 20 mins in the morning and 20 in the afternoon each of the first 3 days.  Then, I gradually added exposure during the noon hour, and eventually all-day (with significant sunscreen).  I never burned, and now by the end of week 2 it is pretty well matched, and I can stop worrying about it.

The week off also gave me an opportunity to get nice and comfortable with my new look before having to answer the questions from co-workers and others.  I also spent a lot of time during that week off in public, which I think helped.

getting your head and face the same color (tan) does help.  You look great.  Welcome.

Just as a follow-up, I made it 30 days (actually 32 as of today) and couldn't be happier about my decision.  I plan to continue shaving the dome indefinitely at this point, no real reason not to.

I thoroughly enjoy the act of shaving, like the look, and really love the "no hassle" approach to dealing with my hair.

Congratulations Bucksfan. It's remarkable how quickly the daily head shave becomes second nature.
