Hey all,
I have been having really great results using bump patrol on the dome. It's great at removing razor bumps, as you'd expect by the name of the product, but it also leaves the scalp feeling super smooth and gives a great shine.

Yes, I'm using it too. Good results so far.
-
too bad they don't sell it in australia
-
+1. Works like a charm O0
-
I will have to give it a try...I use Bump Stopper and Bump Stopper 2 myself and they both work well.
-
After reading this post, I went to see what I could find at the supermarket & found what looked like something to use after bumps are evident as well as a shaving lotion by Bump Stopper. Which one are y'all referring to?
-
I am referring to the product that is used after the shave.
-
Never heard of this product. Fortunately, I do not have a real bump problem. Just Googled it, sounds effective!
-
The stuff I'm using is an after-shave product. When I gave it a try for the first time I was having an issue with small pimples at the base of my neck. The bump patrol took care of that in a hurry. Now, I don't have any issues with acne or bumps but I continue to use the bump patrol because it really does help to make the shaved head feel smooth and it gives it a killer shine. I'm glad to hear there are others on here that enjoy it and if you're looking for a product that will help clear up the scalp, this is a good one to try. :)

FrankR,
Thanks for the tip. I have had some problems with bumps.

I tried it a few months ago and didn't have much luck with it. I haven't had much trouble with razor burn lately though.

do you use their shaving tips or your own?

Frank, I can't thank you enough for this thread. I've dealt with some bumps on the crown of my head off and on for the last year. Very annoying and I've tried a couple of different treatments with limited success. After seeing your post, I figured why not give this stuff a try. After 1 week of use, it's been fantastic. Bumps are gone and you're absolutely right about the shine. This stuff is awesome.
-
Just bought some of this as I have started getting a few small pimple spots on the back of my neck, hopefully this will cure it. Is it best to just use this on its own after shaving head? No aftershave, no witch hazel, no aloe Vera etc?
-

The folks that sell bump patrol stress NOT shaving against the grain at all. However, I believe that this advice is geared more towards gentlemen that tend to have coarse, thick, curly hair. This makes sense since shaving this type of hair against the grain will increase the likelihood of razor bumps. My hair is not curly at all and is not as thick either. As a result, I don't follow their recommended shaving regimen and I frequently shave against the grain and that works fine for me.

You know, I tend to use a lot of product on my head. Although I'm pretty happy with the shaving routine that I've developed and am now consistent with it, I'm still playing around with how I treat the dome after I shave. Currently, once I'm done shaving I'll rinse with cold water. Once I'm out of the bathroom, I then splash some aftershave on the head to further close the pores. I'll then rub my head with my hands and lightly go over any rough spots I may have missed with the razor. Once I've done that, I use the bump patrol. I then finished getting dressed and just before I head out the door I'll put on a little sunscreen and some shine spray. (I favor a shiny dome! lol)

I like to shave with the grain when shaving my head but will go against to touch up spots sometimes but I like to go with the grain I use my own regiment as well and it works well for me also check out some of their videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbNsxMTnxoc&feature=autoplay&list=UUqfvxmct6v3lZtUarIjw-kg&playnext=3

Bought some of it today only because I needed a new shaving brush....Nice stuff, but I still used my Osage Rub aftershave because of the better smell. I may apply some more tomorrow for that shine like Frank has....
-
Just got mine through the post! (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2F4d60a3f2-6a74-d065.jpg&hash=5808bf8a48510d7b15b201fa4c522c1b54adda1a)
Just one question, is it best to store in fridge or cupboard? Thanks
-
I keep mine in the cabinet...but if you feel better putting it in the fridge, go for it.
-
I keep mine in the cabinet as well.
-
what's the shave gel like?
-
what's the shave gel like?
It's pretty clear, has a smell similar to Vicks....I only use a small dollop mixed in with Shave Secret and then apply it with the brush provided.
-
OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW is it meant to sting?
-
Must be the alcohol! Feels quite nice actually
-
I bought a bottle for someone who has bumps and a nasty rash on their groin after they shave. I want this person to find relief and I want to see for myself if it works.
It smells like vinegar, so I am dubious about using it myself, but since Frank said it gives his dome a nice shine, I may just try a splash this weekend. You are sporting a wonderful glow there Frank, by the way.
Mahaw, you say it burns? I like that burning feeling that aftershaves give, so I may just like this burn as well.

Hey guys,
Yes, the bump patrol does sting for a few seconds but I find that once the stinging subsides the scalp feels refreshed and tightens up nicely. My one complaint about the product is the smell. I'm not a fan of the smell of vinegar. So waine, I can totally understand the apprehension. However, it really does work well and the vinegar smell subsides quickly.
-
Applied again this morning and it didn't sting as much. It's such a quality product. Thanks Frank.
-
You're welcome. :)

Made a mess of my head today at the back, got abit too confident with the headblade (2nd go) and ripped me head apart. BANG slapped on bump patrol after cleaning and it has cleared up so much in the space of 3 hours. Great stuff. Stung like mad though, never had anything sting as much lol worth it though. Thumbs up from me
-
@Mark
I used bump patrol for the first time today after picking up two small nicks. It gave a nice sting, and a nice glow to the dome. The scalp also felt smooth and moisterised somehow. Feels like a good product.
-
I don't have this at my local stores.
Front and sides of my head are looking fine, the back on the neckline, veeerrrry angry.
My Walgreens and CVS carrys Bump Stopper 2 is it about the same, like Coke and Pepsi?
SirHarry, I see you use this one.
Keith
-
Keith, they both perform similar functions except that Bump Stopper is a cream and you can't get any shine from it.....FYI, Bump Patrol is sold at Wal Mart...and when I bought it there, they even threw in a free shaving brush! Give Wal Mart a try, and good luck...P.S. Witch Hazel after shaving is another option to prevent razor bumps!
-
Thank SirHarry.
I'm gonna head to WalMart in a bit to see if they have it, if not I'll give the Bump Stopper II a shot.
I'm not worried about a shine, but the back of my head/neck IS TORE UP!
I use the Witch Hazel after every shave on my head and now on my face too.
No issues anywhere else besides the back and neck. Only my 4th or 5th shave, I shave every other day.
Might that have anything to do with it?

Do you wash your scalp after every shave? Do you shave with or against the grain? Another thing is to give it a little time...Your scalp is going through an adjustment, it took me roughly two months to where razor bumps were no longer an issue...and I still get them once in a blue moon if I miss part of my routine. Another thing...it is pretty hot down in the south right now, so your pores will tend to sweat a little more. Good Luck!
-
Went to Walmart. Absolutely NOTHING in the shaving aisle nor the "Ethnic Needs" section that I was led to for razor bumps...
WTH!?!?!?!
Buuuuuuuuut........ :)
Even though the website didn't say they carried it, I stopped by a CVS on the way home because I knew they
had SOMETHING on the website for bumps.
Cruise down the aisle...BAM!..one..ONE! bottle of Bump Patrol on the shelf left!
YEAH!!
Said a lil prayer and put it on my neck. Fingers (and everything else that can be crossed) crossed!
Washing my head afterward? I give it a once over with a warm washcloth before the Witch and Nivea.
As far as direction, I go against the grain or it looks like I have a shadow as soon as I'm done.
Thanks for all the help and I apologize for the partial derail of the topic.

When applying bump patrol, make sure you don't apply anything else, if you want the best result.
-
Glad you found it!....No need to apologize, we can't help if we don't know what you need!....As far as Walmarts go, I have four within a 20 mile radius of where I live (the nearest major city is roughly 25 miles away) Two of them keep their stuff stocked and the other two look like they're candidates for a clearance sale....Getting back to topic, keep us posted with how the Bump Patrol does!

BBCMark, Little clarification please, when do I put the Bump Patrol on?
Immediately after rinsing my head when I finish shaving put it on then and only or after I rinse/Witch but no Nivea?
Thanks
-
I cold rinse head, pat dry, wait about 3 minutes, then splatter it all over my head. I don't use witch hazel when I use it, I don't think there is any need to use it. Also the instructions tell you to just apply the bump patrol, and it's worked for me. I suppose if you wanted to put some witch hazel on when the bump patrol has totally dried then I don't think that would be a problem. Prepare yourself for the 20second sting of the bump patrol, owwww!
-
Yeah, I remember wincing in pain the first time I used the bump patrol. However, I've found I've gotten used to it. I usually apply the bump patrol after I'm done shaving. However, I do use other products as well. Just before leaving the house for the day I'll slather on a thin coat of sunscreen and just a tiny amount of shine spray to kick the shine up a notch. I've found this works well for me.

SirHarry12 and BBCMark thanks for the help!
I just went in and spied the Back of the Melon, is it possible that it is looking better already!?!
I swear it does.
I'll keep using it, but I hope I don't need it long.
$11 for 2oz is way worse than a gallon of gas. :o
I ain't beechin though, thanks again.
Keith
p.s. thanks for starting the thread FrankR, didn't wanna leave ya out!! O0

I've been using the Extra Strength Bump Patrol for quite some time. Here's my review on Amazon:
I have been plagued with ingrown hairs at the nape of my neck for years. Like clockwork, the painful, ugly bumps would show up within two days of shaving my neck. Additionally, my occupation requires I use a stethoscope so I frequently sling it around my neck and this only intensifies the ingrown hair problem.
I am Caucasian, and while Bump Patrol seems to be marketed to men of African descent, it is only because black men typically have a higher incidence of ingrown hairs (pseudofolliculitis barbae). This is because of the fine, curly nature of black men's hair. It more readily curls back into the skin and forms a painful bump. That said, anyone can get an ingrown hair and those with curly hair (white or black)are more likely to be plagued with them.
Recently, I have decided to shave my head. As a result, I developed multiple ingrown hairs, not only on my neck, but all along the back of my head. It was a huge disappointment, and I expected I would not be able to continue with having my head shaved due to the unsightly and painful bumps.
A friend of mine, who was the inspiration to shave my head in the first place, recommended I pick up Bump Patrol found at the local Walmart. His head is perfectly smooth and irritation-free, so I readily heeded his advice. I used it like any other aftershave and noticed improvement within three days (I shave my head daily). However, I was still getting a few new ingrown hairs, so the Bump Patrol was not completely eliminating the problem. In my research, I discovered on Bump Patrol's website that they offer "Original Strength", "Maximum Strength", "Sensitive", and "Extra Strength". Walmart only had "Original Strength", which in of itself is a good product, but it wasn't perfect for my problem.
I discovered "Extra Strength" contains aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), while "Maximum Strength" contains aspirin and witch hazel. I could only find "Maximum Strength" online, so I bought a couple bottles from Amazon.
This Maximum Strength formulation cured my problem after the first application. After a full week of daily use, there have been no ill effects. I am in awe of this product's effectiveness.
A few hints for first-time users:
There is no need to apply large amounts. If you do, your skin will feel sticky. The consistency of the product out of the bottle is like that of gasoline. If you apply it the way the manufacturer recommends, you cannot go wrong. They discourage applying with cotton balls and the like, because you will only waste the product as the cotton will absorb most of it. Just dribble a dab in the palm of your hand and slap it on your skin quickly distributing throughout the desired area. A dime-sized puddle is plenty for my entire meaty head. If you only have a limited area that is problematic for you, you can just spot-treat if desired. My friend just dabs it on his finger and traces it along his hairline.
As far as the product stinging, that has not been my experience unless I have nicks and, of course, razor burn. Otherwise, when you apply this to skin that has been nontraumatically shaven, the only sensation you will have is a soothing coolness.
As per the included FAQ, you can apply your favorite moisturizer approximately 2 minutes after applying the Bump Patrol Maximum Strength without negating the effectiveness of the product.
As should be the case for any similar product, before trying Bump Patrol, make sure you are not contributing to your ingrown hair and razor burn problem with poor grooming habits:
Always use a sharp razor.
Always use a clean razor. Dip the blade in, or spritz the blade with 91% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol to assist with this.
Prepare your skin and hair prior to shaving: The hair and skin needs to be wet and even soaked for at least 2 minutes before shaving. This softens the hair and makes it easier to cut.
Use plenty of lubricant (shaving oil, gel, cream, etc.) and allow whatever medium you use to soak on your head for a few minutes before shaving.
Shaving in the shower is a good idea.
Use hot water to prepare your skin. Use cold water to rinse when you are done shaving. Heat opens pores, cold closes them.
Make as few passes with your razor as possible.
For really stubborn areas, as far as bumps go, try to compromise with a less close shave by shaving with the grain as opposed to against the grain.
Multiple blade razors work by gripping the hair, pulling it out of the skin and slicing it such that when the hair retracts, it is beneath the surface of the skin. This will give you a very close shave, but it will likely increase your chances of ingrown hairs.
Finally, if you have done all the aforementioned things and still have problems with ingrown hairs and razor burn, try simpler products first, such as witch hazel, a natural astringent.
I did all of these things, and still had bumps for years. Bump Patrol Maximum Strength eliminated them. There is no better testament to the effectiveness of any product than that.

I don't really no what to make of it myself. First off I must be applying too much as my head feels horrible and greasy when I apply it. As for eliminating the bumps, it's not really done that. For me nothing works as good as HeadBlades ClearHead. For me personally I won't be buying anymore bump patrol maximum strength.
