Well, I'm not sly yet but I cut my hair w/guard at the lowest setting (3mm). And man does it feel good!

Since I've had long hair all my life, sort of like John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, it was a big step for me. I'm a diffuse thinner so I was able to get away with it for quite a while. This last year though I've had to visit the barbers more than once a month to keep it looking decent. And that's way too often for me, so when the summer arrived I just went ahead with what i've dreaded for so long and got rid of all of it.

And man what a relief. It's ridiculous how little of a change to my appearance it really was, and I think that goes for a lot of people. Hair is just overrated, and this comes from a guy who cared more about his hair back in the day than what is healthy for a young man. (Yes I was a lurker here for years)

I hope a lot of you guys who are on the fence will follow suit. I know it's easier said than done, but just go ahead and try it over the summer.

I would love to post a picture, but I'm trying to stay anonymous online now that the internet is becoming more transparent and searchable.

I'll probably hang on to the 3mm for some time, at least into the winter, maybe sly next summer?

Hey, Big step.  Congratulations.  And Welcome to SBG.

If you think that 3mm feels GREAT, you should try a shaved head.  It feels even better! Hard to believe, but true.  I know from experience.  Summer is a great time for a head shave.

Glad to hear you are making the first big step, just one more to go until you are fully sly! Take as long as you need to adjust, but nothing beats the feeling of being full sly!

Welcome Lars! Sounds like this was a huge step forward for you, congrats on the move. I went with a #2 & #3 for months then with no guard...feels great, just nowhere near as good as a clean shave IMO! :)

Your are at 1-step from complete slyness. If you shave completely sly today, in one week will be exactly as it is now. You have almost nothing to lose... there's almost no difference if you go sly now or in the next season.

Actually, you might lose the period of time you could be experiencing the awesome slickness of a shaved head. Which is extraordinary!

Give it a try. My bet is that you'll like it and keep it. If not, give it a week and you'll have a healthy stubble again.

Personally, I haven't missed a day in two months. Starts each morning for a positive day.
