Title: Hair Conditioner
Post by: tsshaver1 on May 15, 2007, 04:44:30 PM
Being new to this group, I think this is the right section of the forum. There are so many shaving lotions, creams, oils out there  some of them very pricey. (I was given a present of a  $30  for a 1.5 oz  tube shaving lotion last year!)

I humbly suggest that you try shaving with hair conditioner. Use your wife's girl friend's, boy friend's, your own left over from when you had hair. Irregardless hair conditioner works great as a shaving lube. the closest I can describe it that most hair conditioners feel a lot like Headslick  ( Which I am currently using though I will go back to conditioner) On top of that it is cheap. You can buy a large bottle at Dollar Tree which could last a year if you are careful. Those of you who travel can save and collect the conditioner that is supplied in your hotel room.

My friend who runs one of the most exclusive spas in the country swears by it

I have to piggy-back on that about the conditioner...

does anyone still use shampoo/conditioner? or just HeadShed a couple times a week and then shaving and aftershave products?

I ask this because I was looking at wifey's conditioner bottle in the shower and was wondering if I still needed to use it?

Yeah, I used hotel conditioner as shave lube once on a business trip....seemed to work just fine.

I'm testing out a new (to me) product right now.  As soon as I get done with my test, I'll try out the conditioner.

You need to really define what you mean by the word conditioner. A conditioner that is desgned for a person with hair is created to add emolients, body and oils to the hair that are stripped off during shampooing. Why would you want to use that on the sensitive skin of the bald head? Beald Guyz Wash & Shampoo allows you to clean the skin as well as to wash the hair that some of us have.

If you are going to use a Cleanser or Conditioner, make sure it is gentle and does not contain abrasives as they will scratch the dome. You want the skin to be deeply cleaned from oils and dirt and to look good!

At Bald Guyz, it's all about the head.

my wife had some Paul Mitchell shampoo that said it could also be used for shaving.

So, yeah. Definitely worth a try.

My only concern would be those conditioners that are quite heavy and would not prop up the hair shaft (like shave cream does)

Don't laugh, you can also shave your head with olive oil! I used to use it to shave my head. Works as well as King of Shaves or any other shaving oil. You can also eat it. Can't beat that for multipurpose dual action

Actually you can use just about any hair conditioner. My friend is a spa director and used to give me all kinds of conditioner products. They all worked about the same. Remember all of these products, hair conditioners and shampoos are formulated for use on the scalp in the first place. All of the marketing of hair products emphasize the care of the scalp for healthy hair.
By the way hair conditioner can be used by you guys with facial hair

agreed 100%. Which is why I continue to wash my head with shampoo vs shower gel (which is a little more harsh on the scalp)

I've been using a "thickener" conditioner in the shower then covering my dome w/ a hot towel while I shave my face in the mirror.  It seems to "puff up" the "hair" and make it more available to the blade.
