Title: Day 4
Post by: Purpleclad on June 20, 2012, 09:09:45 AM
My story is probably a lot like many of yours.  I started gradually thinning up top around 23 years old, (now 38) and have wasted too much of my precious time, effort, and thoughts being consumed in my hair, or lack thereof.  :)  I really believe that my life has not been lead to the fullest for a number of years now, because I was too occupied in what others would think about me and my thinning hair.  4 days ago, I decided enough, I'm freeing myself from this insanity.  I discussed it with my wife, bought a new pair of Wahl balding clippers and took it off Saturday afternoon to 1/16" of an inch.  Personally  for me, I have always liked the thought of the stubble look versus the down to skin, so that's where I started, knowing I can always go sly after this adjustment period if I choose.

I am 110% ECSTATIC!!  I love the new look, I love my new confidence, I love going swimming, sitting under bright lights, opening the sunroof in my car, the list goes on and on.  All of these emotions of happiness and freedom have occurred in just 4 short days!  I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner, but am not focusing on looking back to what could have been, but rather looking forward to my new life.  I have had nothing but compliments from friends, co-workers, family, etc.

Sorry to "gush", but I really feel like a new life began for me last Saturday, and thank you to everyone here whose stories I read for about a week prior to doing it.  You guys inspired me and gave me the proverbial "kick in the rear" that I needed.

Thank you,

Purpleclad

There is nothing better than feeling confident and happy with yourself. After that, everything else seems to fall into place.

Welcome to the group! If you feel better with stubble than squeaky clean, there's nothing wrong with that...the most important thing is you can now live life instead of letting your hair live it for you!

Welcome PurpleClad,

You reaffirm what I and so many of the guys have said ... "wish I'd done it sooner."

However ... I challenge you: At some point, do a full shave - the difference between stubble and smo-o-o-o-o-oth is indescribable.

And if you don't like it (which I truly doubt) it won't take long to regain stubble length.

Welcome. You look nearly bald in the photo.

I agree with Doug. Time to finish the paint job.  Over the past year I've buzzed with no guard many times. It looks almost bald.

But there is nothing to compare with the smooth feeling of a shaved head. It looks almost the same, but it feels fantastic when shaved smooth.  And the difference between shaved bald and the 1/16 or buzzed no guard is only about 3-4 days, should you want to switch back and forth.

From my experience, I don't want to switch back and forth.  It's bald every day.

Thanks everyone for the welcome and kind words.  I'm sure after the readjustment period, it won't be long before I go the sly route.  Heck, last night before bed I took the 1/2 guard off the clippers and went no guard, or 1/32".  I think at this point the look wouldn't be much different at all, just the smoooooooth feel.   O0  Thanks again everyone, this is a great group of guys, so glad I found this site.

Welcome - - -You look great and we are all in the same boat - - -we wish we had done it alot sooner  - - -but we are there now and it is wonderful  - -enjoy the new look  - -

It sure is in style  -  I  love the GLOSSY DOME.

I have just returned from a trip to Bermuda and about 80% of guys were bald   - balding or were fringing it. There is nothing like it  - -  Show it off all you can - - -I have always been: - - - A  bald dome "show off"

Welcome, Purpleclad! We love to hear great stories like this one. Your picture is of a man who looks happy as he can be. Congrats on freeing yourself!  O0
I hope others who are considering going buzzed or sly become motivated from your post.

Welcome Purpleclad, You have a great head for the sly look. If you are like me I was almost bald any way and what was there I kept tight. So it really wasn't that big a deal for me. Good Luck. This is a great place for info and support. If you made the 30 day commitment; just about 3 weeks left go for it. O0

CONGRATS BRO! It's a great look on you but even more important is the freedom you have described for yourself! I'm just two days in to being sly. I've done the no guard in the past & believe it or not they don't even compare as far as the feel goes IMO. You look confident in your pic...keep on keeping on!
