Title: Dandruff?
Post by: Scissors on May 29, 2012, 07:47:21 AM
Firstly a bit of background info. I am 21 years olds and the family' genes have already started to kick in hard. Decided I am going to take the plunge. Since the old man is holding onto the homer simpson style hair he is of no assistance to me. Thought I would ask those more experienced.

From since when I can remember I have had a problem with dandruff, it comes and goes, its not that bad but is worrying. Can you still get Dundruff going with the sly? Should I use some dandruff shampoo for a week or two before taking the plunge. Basically this is the major thing stopping me at the moment...could be a bit embarrassing.

At the moment I don't have any work commitments ( holidays <3 ) so I can get away with wearing a hat if I have to cover up anything for a few weeks.

So basically what I am asking is for some input from anyone that has suffered from dandruff and what they would recommend I do.

After that I have plenty more questions...starting with how you actually get rid of you hair  :-[

shaving your scalp should alleviate any dandruff issues...at least that's been my experience.

Good luck! Lots of good information on SBG to help you with your decision.

Second this. I would have a small amount of dandruff from time to time, but it was never an issue after I started shaving. Not once.

i.ve had major dandruff problems, and that problem was one of the factors that made me go bald. I do not regret that call. it's annoying to suffer from dandruff. going sly will fix that problem

Scissors , when you do decide to shave have some thing such as a facial exfoliant (apicot scrub),and use it after the shave, it will help clean up the remaining flakes.

Hi & welcome to the site.

After my first head shave the dandruff situation immediately improved, so I guess I agree with the rest of the guys here.
My advice: take the plunge, get the head shaved by a professional if possible & enjoy the trip to being SLY by choice.

Best wishes,

Bilko

I'm on day 10 and chose to go sly because of my dandruff/scalp problems. They have basically all cleared up, with a noticeable difference at day 2.

The real help I think has been the ability to really care for the skin on my head with exfoliant, witch hazel and moisturizer.

Let us know how it goes!

Been shaving now for just under a month, not always everyday, and I can pretty much say any dandruff flakes I had are gone....of course that maybe a different matter If I let my noggin grow out :o ;) :-\ :-X, but for now with shaving more or less every day, except perhaps bar 2 days a week....no flakes nor itching! and i much prefer it, give it a go!!!!

hi, i am 24 male from india and i had excessive dandruff like huge sticky lumps of dandruff and had excessive hair loss due to it.While bathing, combing after that and when i woke up in the morning..everytime hair loss.I was so much terrified of water and bathing(which i thought caused hairloss LOL) that i would bathe less often and could not even sleep properly to the point where i had a chronic insomnia and i could not remember last time i slept well-all of it worsened the hairloss+the tension of hairloss in my mind.

There used to be excessive itching in my head and when i would scratch my head..again hairloss, i was teased for dandruff when i was in university.I used to feel so HOT in my head, just wanted to die or hide somewhere.

But, at last i got it shaved and now no more worries :D.I just wanted to share my experience.Feeling good and LIGHT now.No hair no hair loss.

I want to ask you guys, i don't know in which country you're living but in india its almost a taboo for a 24 yo to have a shaved head like you're like an alien among the young crowd. Here they say.. you keep on loosing it.. dont get it shaved and let hairloss from temples and top of head worsen which will look really bad like thick hair only on sides and thin in centre/top.

Please tell me how to deal with this shaved head when out in public?Or should i wear a cap for 1 month or so till it grows to #1 or 2 size? Will it affect an interview?
Cheers to all bald brothers!! O0

This has definitely been my experience also. I also have real bad scalp psoriasis. Shaving my head has illuminated my psoriasis on my head entirely.
