Hello all SBG's! I am 26 and NOT balding- but I have an issue I would appreciate feedback on :) For several years, since late high school, I have been cropping my hair down to a 2 or less and letting it grow back to over an inch. This has been a decent setup, but within the past few years I have seriously considered shaving my head every time I cut my hair.
Here is my issue:
As my hair grows longer, I seem to develop an increasingly severe dermatitis, to a free which will cause me to itch (disgusting alert) reasonable size chunks of my scalp off and on occasion bleed from doing so. When I cut my hair down, the problem is t eliminate completely, but seems to dramatically improve.
Has anyone had this issue or decided to go bald BECAUSE of scalp problems? My hope is that a regimine of exfoliating and moisturizing a bald me will clear up my issue. Any help, again, would be greatly appreciated!

PS- posts this on my IPhone so sorry for any quirky spelling or grammatical errors :P

Welcome OMB ...
Many years (perhaps 15 or so) ago I had similar symptoms, which I think was related to very oily skin/scalp and that the hair helped keep the oils in place despite shampooing. It eventually dissipated.
But since your situation improves with shorter hair I would encourage you to go much shorter - like maybe to a "no guard" buzz and see how that changes things.
Fortunately, others around here will certainly toss in their opinions and expertise which will likely be more direct and insightful than mine on this particular topic (I have my own areas of special knowledge ... LOL).
But ... in any case ... welcome.

You really need to consult a skin doctor--there are several guys here with a similar problem. The good news is that shaving your head could be part of your complete relief from this issue. Good luck, glad you found us.

Welcome aboard, and good luck...hope you find a solution.

Thanks gents! I've seen the doctor but not the dermatologist. Think I'm going to start my 30 day at the end of the week (after hair-filled engagement pictures).
I really appreciate the responses :)

A dermatologist can help with skin issues better than a regular doctor.....So you plan to be sly for your wedding day?

There are a number of guys on here that have shaved for dermatitis issues.
That's a good reason to shave your head. Another good reason is just because you like it! Or you don't have to have a reason at all.
A wedding with a bald head would look great! And good head rubs on the honeymoon!

Congratulations with the decision & welcome to SBG forum.
Before I had my head shaved I used to get scalp irritation & lots of dandruff. After my head was shaved my scalp condition dramatically improved. I think the real problem was using too much shampoo & oils being trapped by the hair.
All the best,
Bilko

I had the same problem which was a big reason why I finally shaved my head last week. I've been noticing now that daily shampooing followed with a moisturizer that's mostly beeswax and olive oil keeps my scalp looking good.

Congratulations on the wedding, btw.
