Title: Asian shaving
Post by: MANGOisGOOD on May 23, 2012, 08:52:00 AM
hey guys

well to start off i'm Asian and i've been thinking of shaving my head for a while now. However what bothers me is that i'm not sure if my head shape would suit it, as you may know Asians' head tend to be flat at the back in some cases, in which i think i'm one of those.

just to give you guys a general idea of my head shape, it's pretty flat at the back as stated above and also my face is a bit wider i guess..i tried putting my hands over my hair and try to push it down a bit to see how it is at the back and top but i just can't really get the picture of me looking good bald..

So, are there any advice that anyone can give me on whether i should shave my head or not.

Thanks a lot guys!

Ken

Welcome Ken!!

Many of the guys on here have worried, before shaving, about the shape of their heads. But I've never heard one complaint after they actually shaved.
It's just a fear of the unknown.... and it really is baseless.

Look at all the "I should have shaved sooner!" posts.

Welcome! The overwhelming response here will be "Do it!"

Like Koz said though, look at all the posts that say "I don't know why I waited so long" or "What was I afraid of?" and that type of thing.

Just Shave It!

These guys nailed it already.
As the saying goes: "You have nothing to fear, but fear itself." I'll echo them and tell you right now, you're already too hung up in your head shape for no reason other than speculation. Besides, do you really want to have a head shaped like Charlie Brown's?  ;D

Go for it, dude. No real way to tell unless you take the plunge. It's just hair. It will grow back if you really don't like what you see (which I doubt). Best of luck!  O0

Welcome!

As echoed above, just shave it! Even people with really funny shaped heads still look good sly!

If you don't like it, it will grow back in a matter of days.

Treat it as ’just another hair cut' IMO?

Good luck and be sure to post some before and after pics!

From one Asian to another, welcome to the brotherhood of the bald Ken. My head is more on the flat side at the back but it does not bother me. I know you will look good bald but you will never know unless you try.

What part of Asia are you from? By the way, the mangoes where I am from are one of the best in the world.  ;)

Thanks Kalbo for commenting here.

And BTW, mangos in the states are terrible.  Mangos in Asia are GREAT.  No comparison.  Pineapples, too.

'Tis true, sadly. Good ones are few and far in between :(.... I'd almost swear they've been continuing to decline in quality in the last few years.

Careful shopping for fruits like mangos--it's not something I'd buy at a Walmart, it's a Whole Foods type item.  Buy when they're in season and not when they have to be shipped from far distances.  Buy by flavor and not price.

I'm gonna chime in on all counts,

1. Welcome, I'm sure you will look great, you just have to look at Kalbo to see that it's a great look, think of all the Bhuddist monks, they look badass!

2. Phillipino Mangoes sure are the best! I can't help but eat the whole thing in one sitting if I'm not restrained by the Mrs.

3. Also I agree with Ro, where's the bow tie Mr Z?

Never had Aus mangoes.  Another food that is better in Asia is lemon grass.  A local Thai restaurant manager says that USA lemon grass just does not have the flavor. He imports his for better flavor. Says he tries to grow it locally, but it just is lacking in flavor. Must be something about the Asian weather or soil that's different.

I'm sorry to continue to jack this thread, but it looks like the OP is MIA anyway.  ;D

I'd like to try a peach direct from Asia. My grandfather used to grow them for a living in Virginia. I remember growing up, there was nothing more delicious than a soft peach plucked right from the tree. I can only imagine how one from it's native land would be...

Mr. Z, thanks for sharing your vintage photo.
This post started with shaving and expanded to Asian fruits and produce, hehehe.
And yes, Buddhist monks look badass.  O0

I know I'm kind of late with this but Maui Gold pineapples from Hawaii are really good. They're expensive but worth the price.
