Title: The youngest member has gone sly!
Post by: Pumper on May 13, 2012, 10:49:17 PM
I just trimmed it super short. I'm scared to shave my head b/c I heard all these stories about razor burns and nicks and cuts all over the head.

I refuse to take any other angled pics because my head looks so pale! Bleh.. I'm hoping my head will match my face in skin tone after 30 days.

Hey,

Both look good, but bald is always a winner! Glad you like it...

The color will come with some time!

29 days to go!

If you're out in the world without a hat, 30 days will help with the head fade and change the color.

Looks good. I'd not worry about razor burns, nicks and cuts.  Just take it easy at first to get used to the process.  I've only had a few nicks and they were minor and from going too fast.  Razor burns, most likely come from using too much pressure. Take it easy.  For cuts,  make sure you move the razor blade perpendicular to the edge of the blade. forgetting and moving parallel is sure to make a slice!  Don't be distracted when you shave (at least this month).

Don't be scared to shave your head. Everyone has to start somewhere. First time I tried, I cut myself pretty good. Due to that, I didn't try again for a long while. The second time I did eventually go for it, it was a much smoother process, and is now second nature at this point.
Slow and steady is the way to go in the beginning. It also largely depends on the quality of the razor and shaving cream/gel/oil you are using. Even the man with the steadiest hands in the world could nick his head with a cheap Bic razor and a can of Barbasol.

Both that and your pale head will improve in time, Pumper.  Now go out there and get some sun ;)

Looks great, Pumper!

Don't worry about the shaving too much. It's not more difficult than shaving your face, IMO. The first time might feel a bit weird, but after a couple of shaves, your scalp gets used to it.

And in the 6 months of shaving my head I've only cut myself once, and that was a really minor cut.

I use a Gillette Fusion Manual razor and Gillette Fusion Hydragel. I shave my head every other day and change razor blades every 2 weeks. To counter razor burn I rub some coconut oil onto my scalp for hydratation, but I've also heard good things about Aloe Vera and Witch Hazel.

I hope you keep the buzzed/sly look, it looks great on you and makes you stand out (in a positive way).

Thanks for the posts guys.

I guess I'm not the youngest. There is an 18 year old here.

Went to work at got teased. W/e it's all laughs. I'm going to keep it for 30 days. I think once I get the tan it will look good. I think it makes me look more masculine.

Day 2: Used a razor. Went with the grain for the most part. My dome is still very pale. It has a green tint to it. I think that's because I have very thick  dark hair, and no signs of baldness. It looks pretty bad when you take a pic from the top. I don't know... I mean most of the guys on this forum are elderly and I feel like some of you may have had signs of baldness so you just went through and it looks great on you. On me, however, I have 0 signs of baldness. When I shave, that shadow is just so in your face. It's like a cancer patient from the top. :/

Man, it's only day 2. I hope it gets easier. I really hope I can get a tan like some of you on this forum.

Is this forum not so much for people like me? Has anyone seen a guy with a thick head full of hair pull it off?

After some research I'ma try the Jergens Natural Glow. I do want a real tan though. Can I apply Jergens and go out in the sun and still get a real tan?'

I just need a product that will give me a tan until I get the real thing on my scalp.

I have a full head of black hair pumper, no sign of mpb. You look great with and without hair. what is the story behind your choice to shave your head?

By the way, welcome to the bald brotherhood.

There is no such thing as too high.

I've read in some articles lately that anything over 15SPF is overkill. In personal experience, I used a 15SPF lotion on my head just the other day when I was helping my wife's family work on my mother-in-law's garden. 5 hours of direct sun and sweat and no burn. Forgot to cover my arms, though.  ;D
Not trying to preach. I'm sure it's a YMMV kinda thing.

LOL is it that bad?
I would think it's best not to interfere with the natural process, but of course I'm no expert.

I went bald b/c when I get a buzz cut the chicks digged it. They said it brought out my eyes and all that BS. I'm doing for the bitches homie!

Yea it's pretty bad man. Hopefully this jergens will start kicking in. I'm going to only try this for 7 days lol. If my head doesn't start tanning by then, I have no hope and will go with a short buzz with a line up.

Sorry guys, I quit lol. The green tint will not go away. It's my genetics. Even when I against the grain my hair is so thick on my dome that it leaves a green tint. (Imagine a middle eastern with a stubble... they have that green tint)

I'm going to go with a really short buzz cut though, with a line up.

Wholehearted agree.  I would much rather have a white head than a red, peeling one.
