Hey guys. I decided to make this post because I think many guys on the fence, including myself before I buzzed it all off, are afraid of the reactions they will get from the people in their lives. Everyone is a little afraid of if they personally will like it or not, but I think most guys fear what the initial reactions from others will be. I obsessed about shaving for 6 months before doing the deed, and was truly afraid of what people would think. Although I only shaved a week ago and am still getting used to it, I realize now that any fears I had were EXTREMELy unwarranted. I thought I would make a list of the reactions I've gotten in the first week. Here goes:
. (from my sister) It looks good! ( with a kind of shock on her face)
. (from a roommate/bandmate) You look like a funny criminal
. (from a girl I used to work with) Damn, Asher, you look like a skinhead! (enthusiastically, as if that isn't a bad thing)
. ( from a guy I used to work with) whoa, BZZZZZ!
. ( from a fellow musician in my neighborhood) Looks good! show off those brains!
. ( from a neighbor) OMG, its the new you!
. ( from a roommate) I didn't realize I was living with an abercrombie and fitch model! (definitely the nicest comment!)
. (from my other roommate) It doesn't look bad.
. (from my sisters boyfriend) Could be worse, you could have ears like mine!
. (from a guy at the bar i frequent) whoa, that looks good on you! I want to try it but aren't sure if it would look good on me! ( I told him it looks ok on everyone)
. (from a friend I hadn't seen in a while) Wow asher, thats a new look for you.
. (from a friend who used to make fun of my burly jew-fro before I started balding) NICE HAIRCUT!
As you can see , although not all the comments are 100% positive, none of them were anything to be afraid of. I was afraid to take the plunge because I thought I would look bad and people would see that, I certainly don't have an ideally shaped head. The fact is I probably look better than before and my confidence has doubled. To anybody on the fence, JUST DO IT. Nobody cares that much except for you!

Great post and summary of the range of reactions. Most of our fears / worries about shaving our heads are unfounded. No matter what, some people will be negative, but by and large, most people react well to "the look." Once people become accustomed to seeing you with a shaved head, it becomes a non-issue.

It looks great OFF you !! 😄👍 Excellent advice to the fence sitters. Sly always looks much better. It does increase your confidence. It is very freeing !! And you can't beat the feeling of a fresh shaven dome !!! 😄👍

Welcome AJB, good post, and I too hope it will help get some of the fencer's to finally shave. Most, if not all the thoughts we have about shaving our heads are unfounded. It really is a non-issue.

Great post! I think how we carry ourselves and demonstrate confidence in wearing the shaved look goes a long way in some people's reaction towards us. I went out with my wife last night at our favorite local bar where we are regulars and I didn't get one response from the frequent bar flys we see. In fact, at least three other guys were in the bar looking sly as well. We all just gave one another the "head nod".
