so i have buzzed my hair to a #1 before and i have always wanted to completely shave it, but what has happened is yesterday i got news yesterday that my brother who has served in the army for the last 16 years is being medically realeased so on saturday as part of a funraiser/awareness thing for the wounded warrior project (which will now benifit my brother) i have an apointment to have my head shaved with a STRAIGHT RAZOR!!!!!! at "the art of shaving" i'm kinda nerveous about that and how that will look but i am also getting married this july and i planed on shaving for the first time after the wedding cause i have decided i wanted to see what the sly look would look like on me. so questions are (not that it matters to me cause like i said i was going to shave it later on anyways) how long will my hair be by july becasue my fiancee has said that she would really like me to have like atleast 1 inch by the wedding day and has anyone else had a straight razor head shave at "the art of shaving" or a straight razor head shave period? i just want to know how did that feel what did they do stuff like that. if anyone can help me with these questions i would grately appriciate it. please help. im nervous and a little scared about the shave tommrow and i dont want to let my fiancee down on her big day. thanks

A few quick answers: hair grows between 1/4 and 1/2 inch a month, so you may be at the 1 inch mark by July, assuming you don't shave again.
I've had straight razor shaves both at The Art of Shaving and elsewhere. The routine is this: hot towel on the head for a few minutes, then an application of pre-shave oil to soften the hair and make the razor glide better, warm shaving cream and then the razoring begins. After the shave, another towel, then a moisturizer. The ritual is pretty relaxing. Depending on the skill of the barber, you will get a close, but not perfectly smooth shave. Also, I've had shaves that were done so skillfully that the razor simply glided across my skin and other shaves where I could feel the razor a little more.
Good luck - enjoy the experience.

Conversely you fiancee might actually like you SLybald and decide you get married Sly ?

Baldchav may be onto something!
Here's a true story: my neighbor went sly the morning of his wedding. He stood at the altar and when the doors at the back of church opened for his bride-to-be to come down the aisle, she saw him fully sly for the first time. They're happily married for ten years and have three little boys. And yes, he is still sly!

hahah thats awesome guys. yesterday we were sitting on the couch at her house and she like put both of her hands on my fore head and pulled my hair up to where it looked like i was bald and she said "ok you might be able to pull it off. she also toldme yesterday she is going with me to "the art of shaving" because she dosent want to seeonesecondwith a full head of hair andthen the next completely shaven. so it willbe interesting. i think i'm getting less and less nerveous and more and more excited. :)

Hopefully she'll enjoy watching the shave and will like how you look afterwards!
You may feel a little nervous, but take my word for it - you'll enjoy the experience!

I beg my pardon, but I have to tell you that she kind of is in control of you. I mean, she wants you to have a certain haircut/ length of hair?
My humble opinion is: If she likes/loves, she'll deal with you as you are. bald or no, ect.
You should do what you like, and not to live after other's espectations.

@paulthe bald. you have a point. we talked and she told that sheknows she will like it. and i even asked her if she wanted me to not do it and to my surprise she told me that if i really wanted to do this then i should do it, then she said just dont be surprised if i freak out a littleduring the shave. which is understandable. but i now know that she is supportting my decsionto do this. thanks.

I may have a point, but all you've said to me was "she said that .....and that...." not: " I said, I'll do" :)

Justa quickie what is this "Art Of Shaving " is it a chain of barbers in the US ?
-
I shaved my head for the first time, three months ago. Wife was not crazy about it, but I liked it so much from day one, I've not been able to quit shaving since then, (not that I want to quit now). She has gotten used to it.
Others like it a lot.
Yes, hair grows 1/4 to 1/2 per month. But since shaving once, I've never let this happen again. (except in the beard which is here to stay).
Would be nice to see before and after pictures.
Hope you choose to remain sly for life. It's a nice feeling and looks good.

My family including my g/f was not thrilled with the Sly look but after awhile, everyone loves it and thinks that I should never try growing my hair out again. It's a lifestyle choice, a commitment but after you get used to it, it's completely worth it. Clean, smooth and fresh daily! Welcome to the brotherhood.
