Title: Do you shave more than the horseshoe?
Post by: ProphetNoir on April 12, 2012, 05:53:58 PM
Hello Again Sly Brethren.

Like most of you I am having a great time maintaining my smooth dome.  I wonder how many others there are like me who have largely gone bald naturally and only have the 'horseshoe' of hair growing at the temples and around the back of the head.
If that's what you have, then answer me this:
Do you lather and shave your entire head anyway, or only the area where hair grows?

I ask because after last night's shave - where I did the horseshoe area only - I noticed that the shaved area felt noticeably smoother than the top of my head.  I still lathered the top area and used the extra lather to touch up areas where I could still feel some stubble until my head was as smooth as glass.

Now I am considering running the blade over the rest of my head just as an exfoliating measure.

Any thoughts?

Yup, I do the whole head. Otherwise the top isn't as smooth as it should be.

For me, the only real bald spot is at the crown.  Otherwise I have diffuse thinning over the top of my head.  So I have to shave the whole head.

Well, Prophet, in my case, I'm thinning but still have fringes on top and at the crown...In my case I shave the top only once, but I have to shave the horseshoe area twice....weird but still achieves the desired result.

It feels better with the little fuzz I have on top to shave the entire noggin - I like a shiny- smooth dome.

Definately have to shave the "runway" even though when you look there's no shadow, in the sun it looks like skin.  Notice, if you will, some guys who are profoundly bald and don't go sly, so many times you see numerous scattered long thin hairs growing out of their "runways."  And what's kind of weird for me is that it's the runway where I first can feel scattered stubble, sparce but stubble, hours before I can detect it by feel on the sides.  It's just evidence that Mother Nature will ultimately take it all for most guys, but she's sloppy and none too exacting on her design, a good reason to get ahead and go sly.

That's exactly how it appears to me also.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

I think most people have some stragglers on top -- just enough to be a nuisance and need to be shaved.

I have alot less on top so it's easier to shave, but it's not gone far enough yet.

I think that's what I was trying to say about my situation but couldn't come up with the words....Thanks!

Lot less on top for me too, but yeah, I shave the whole head. Just feels better, and once you get started for me it's just natural to do the whole thing. Only difference is that the back and the sides get touch ups, the top is in no need for the extra treatment
