Well fellow Sly Guys, I took the plunge today with the razor! I posted my routine out there, so I won't repeat it.
I took a few pics today to see how things looked up top, and I may need to change up a few things, as I have quite a few red spots almost all over, but surprisingly none on the back! They are on the sides and top!
See below for a pic of the top.
I'm hoping that these will go away with time, and it could be caused by doing two passes (with and against the grain), but only time will tell. I know I'll get used to it, but everytime I touch my head, I am reminded that there is no more hair up there!
-
Try some hydrocortizone 10% lotion, not creme, from the drugstore---great for reducing redness. Aloe vera also helps, but the hydro is the best to get it under control, and aloe for maintenance.
-
Welcome. Witch hazel will also help. I get Thayers from GNC and it works very well.
-

just wanted say "congrats" on your 1st day... your results will get better as u obtain experience each day. keep us posted and remember 2 keep that "30 day rule" intact. 8)

Congrats on joining the club. It's common to have some red marks and irritation at first, but in a short time, your scalp will toughen up and adjust to being shaved. From one of your other posts, your method sounds great, so just stick with it.
-
What red spots. The shaved head looks great. Keep it up and enjoy the freedom.
-
congratulations.
Looks ok for a first shave...you'll get the hang of it ( by yourself or watching videos about it on the internet).
Things will change within a month, don't give up
-
Looks good...just keep it up and your scalp will adjust.

The kids loved the feel of it, and the wife is getting used to it. She was surprised that I shaved it with a razor, and admitted that she was grieving my lack of hair a bit, but like I said, she is getting used to it.
Decided to put a day in between shaves to not upset the scalp. That will put me shaving on Saturday and again on Monday.
By the way, attached are two photos: one before (view from above) and one after. You can see how the hairline was receding and yet how thick it was on the sides (future bozo head?!?!?)
-
It clearly was time, enjoy the freedom and looking a lot younger!
-
Welcome - - -You look great and you look much younger - - -
The red spots will go after a while - -give it a week or two.
Enjoy the new look - - -It is great being BALD.

Hey Slyaggie!
What a difference! You are lookin good! Congrats on taking the plunge.

Day one looks good

I can't sieve how much your hair can grow in just one day! My head feels like the rough part of Velcro! Taking a t-shirt off is like peeling apart industrial strength Velcro if you let it get close to your head!
-
When it feels like velcro, that's the signal that it's time for another shave. All part of the experience. time to remove my 'velcro' and start the day with a fresh shave, and a new blade today.
Generally, only one shave per day, unless something really special is happening in the evening that warrants a second shave.
-
Man what an improvement, you look great! As far as the Velcro goes, I find that the more consecutive daily shaves you do, the smoother it stays for longer, I'd say don't do multiple daily shaves unless you REALLY need to, you'll get it smooth.
-
Thanks fellas. Shaved again today and I must say it looks much better the second go round. The biggest change was to only do one pass against the grain. Much less irritation and far fewer red spots!
At first I tried some of jack blacks beard gel after using art of shaving pre-shave oil, but noticed pretty quickly that there was some irritation (almost burning), so I quickly rinsed it off and went back to my routine the first go round. It seemed to do the trick.
-
All about finding a routine that works for you... O0

It does grow much faster than you realize. It's why I shave everyday. I also had the same experience with t-shirts, especially after exercising. Amazing the amount of gripping power that a little stubble has!

Thank for posting those before and after picture. Looking at my shaved shadow, think I'm about the same level of receding hairline too.
Great shine there and you look pretty pleased with yourself. And so you should be ! Keep up the good work.

In 30 days, it will become like second nature.....Good luck!
-
Well, I'm one week in, and loving the Sly look/feel! Today I shaved for the second day in a row, to see if I had any irritation by shaving two days in a row. Guess what, NONE! Now, once I get my Fogless Shave Mirror (by ToiletTree Products), I'll be shaving in the shower, which means no more in/out of shower to rinse my shiny head off with cold water after shaving at the sink!
The one thing I'm seeing is that my Hydro 3 only lasts 3 shaves, despite cleaning, air drying, and even trying the "blue jean" cleaning method!
An African American buddy of mine, also Sly, says he uses nothing but the Andis T-Edger clippers, and man, his head is slick! I may have to get me some of these one of these days!
-
Good to know one more happy shaver. I agree with all the comments the other sly brothers have posted. Its a keeper. O0

Keep at it bruv

I have a pair of those myself and I've been using them until my stitches come out on Monday. Great for when I'm short on time or in my current situation (post surgical).

Day three in a row for blade shaving! It is amazing how much smoother it is with multiple days of shaving. It also seems that the growth slows down on this third day as opposed to two days of shaving in a row.
Also, I was hesitant to try the HeadBlade, but I had bought one when I first clippered my hair, but started with the Hydro 3 instead. I am here to tell you, that HeadBlade, along with HeadSlick, is AWESOME! I got the closest shave yet with it, and also the quickest! I wasn't trying to rush thru things, but it just happened that way. My 5 year old son was also impressed with it, and asked me why I was using a Hot Wheel on my head ;D
-
Well fellas, today is day 22 with no hair, and day 20 with a razor. I must say I'm loving it, and have a good routine down.
I'm shaving in the shower thanks to a great foggless mirror by toilet tree products. I'm using HB with their cartridges, though I bought some wilkinson swords to try with next cartridge changes. I'm using headslick and a badger brush to get a thick lather.
After shaving I use witch hazel (don't get it mixed up and accidentally put on alcohol though...that hurts!), followed by Nivea aftershave balm and then before leaving the house I put on aloe gel.
With all this I have also started using a DE razor on my face and getting a really nice shave! One of these days I might use it on my head if I get the guts to!
Thanks to all of your input and encouragement. This is a wonderful site!

Hey SlyAggie... Glad to hear your closing in on 30 days!!! Looking good man!
-
It is strange but since I joined this group I do tend to look foreward to shaving and not treat it as a chore

I'm w/you chav...Nothing like starting the day off by shaving the dome!
-
Maybe someday I can get to that everyday shaving level....a combination of surgical scars and laziness is holding me back right now....but I enjoy hearing about everyone's everyday shaving stories, keep it up!
-
Well fellas I've passed the 30 day challenge and loving the sly look and feel. Its definitely a keeper for me! Thanks for all the great support!
-
Congratulations, Mr. Aggie.
I know how you feel! I was there just a few months ago.

Congrats SlyAggie... From one Texan to another! (even though you're an Aggie 8))
-
Good man Aggie. Congrats on your first 30 days.

Well folks it has been a while since I've posted. I am coming up on 6 months of shaving my head and still loving it immensely! My wife loves it more now than ever. My kids hate it when I let it grow over the weekend because it's too scratchy!
Not sure if I'm gonna try the HB ATX though. The idea seems counter to the old HB.

Congrats on your 6 months. Don't you use a DE razor to shave the dome? I know you DE shave the face. We have a SAFETY RAZOR section of the forum. Why don't you participate and share your SOTD?

Congrats on your 30 days. It sure is true that the 30 days has the effect it does. People said that I would not keep it up but here I am at almost 6 months and am keeping it for sure. Daily shaving is something I really look forward to for sure. Passing by a mirror has a whole new meaning!
