This is pretty long post but i felt like i needed to share this very personal part of me on here.
I lurked here for a long time, probably past couple of months. Like a lot of people's posts ive read they started MPB at a young age. I started when i was about 17/18, a senior in highschool and would frequently get asked at baseball practice or in class, "Hey Alex, are you going bald?" I would just shrug it off and say "i don't know" when I really did know and was too embarrassed to admit it. I mean sheesh, when people start noticing your thinning hair at 18, that can be very very stressful and embarrassing.
Skip ahead to college. Meeting tons of new people I was extremely extremely embarrassed about it, I wore a hat all the time, and I mean all the time for a few years. I would even freak out when teachers asked us to remove hats during a test, but it had to be done and i did it, and I never looked around, I just looked straight down at my paper. I don't want to go into too much detail here but long story short this effected my grades very badly and I was almost thrown on academic probation due to my GPA plummeting. The stress of my grades/hair issue lead to social anxiety and nearly screwed up my college career. I ended up going to a counselor to talk about my mild depression and anxiety and got on some zoloft, which has turned my life around in the past 3 months. I did not tell her about me wearing a hat all the time, as i figured which that was something i could deal with on my own, and now i have. As for the social anxiety, well that started when i noticed my receding hair in my car window reflection. This is the first time i've told anyone about the "hat disaster" (excluding people who just knew from being around me all the time) because I am not embarrassed at my slyness at ALL anymore, especially with all the great people on this forum. In hindsight, yeah, that was a bad choice, the worst thing you can do is try to hide it. I feel so foolish for doing it now but thats in the past and now im sly, and love it more than i can type.
I'm 23 now have come to realize that i can't feel insecure about something I have no control over, it is just silly to. If people have a problem with my slyness, well that is their damn problem.
So to all you younger guys out there that think they have a weird head shape (trust me I did too), or are afraid they wont like their look, or are just simply scared. STOP thinking about it, and bring a razor to your dome. I cannot tell you the amount of relief and freedom I feel now from doing this.
There is my wall of text story, but I felt like i needed to share it to help the younger crowd out. I know how you feel.
