Title: styled like a billiard ball
Post by: fauxnetic on April 04, 2012, 09:35:02 PM
my fellow sbg's,

I just took the plunge and love it.

As a previous lurker on this site I can directly credit the supportive environment of these here forums for pushing me into the sly style. This is a unique community and I'm glad to be a part of it.

I shaved the dome for two reasons:

1. the hair line has been in slow retreat for several years. While I'm not totally bald I am fighting a losing battle. The sides are in full on retreat while the middle is holding on but the end is nigh. IN THIS BATTLE THERE CAN BE NO SURRENDER! so i scorched the earth.

2. I like many on this forum suffer from the scourge of seborrheic dermatitis. Seeing some of the claims made on here about a total relief of symptoms motivated me to try it for myself.

That said, I love the look and the itching is better. I do have some red patches from the dermatitis and I was wondering if anybody could tell me if these will go away and about how long it took for theirs to disappear.

Also, how long does it take for your skin to toughen up. I shaved yesterday and today using headslick and a headblade and it was less than pleasant. If these questions have been addressed elsewhere, my apologies.

Thanks

Welcome to SBG!  It can take a few shaves to get your scalp conditioned.  Since you're using the HeadBlade, you may also want to try the Sensor blades.  I've found them to be a better shave than the other blades.

You'll find a lot of 'warnings' on this site about starting out with the head blade for your first shave(s).  I agree with these posts. I used a Schick Hydro 5 for the first two weeks. Still use it to catch the areas that the HB misses.  Now I use the HB daily, but in conjunction with the Hydro 5.

I found that the first week was more tender on the scalp than after that. Not bad, but just took a little while to 'toughen up'.  Since you're only two days in, consider yourself in the training period. Go easy on your head.  Does not have to be scraped to the bone, so to speak.  Leave that for next week or the week after.

Post a picture of your billiard ball.  Welcome to SBG.  The guys here have been instrumental in me becoming BBC.  I love it.  I've met some good guys here, too.

welcome to SBG! but faux check out the post I created in the head shaving forum! The name is "Video: The Ultimate Head Shaving Video For Beginners" you will need to watch that so you can get the best out of your headshaves! Hope the shaving goes well! Also don't use the HeadBlade just yet use a standard razor like the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power and you that with some HeadSlick but don't use that HeadBlade until in about a good three weeks!

Welcome to the forum. With time your scalp will become accustomed to having a blade passed over it.
There are plenty of products out there to try, so have some fun and see what works best for you.

Welcome Faux, enjoy the forum life!

1)Great tactics.

2)sebo derma is quite common when you're loosing hair. Altough I'm bald by choice and never experienced it, I have great production of sebo.

Regarding the way to avoid irritation, well.
The guys are wise and already suggested you what to do.
Neverthless, I use an electric razor, Philips Headgroom, which has been told to be more gentle on the skin.
Plus I don't shave any day.
But I'm BBC plus alternating slyness and regrowth quite frequently... thus it is quite a different story, here.

Can't wait to see you and your dome! :)
