I stumbled across this board several days ago and registered this evening. I am 30 years old, and involved in politics, I always have to look well dressed and groomed when in public. When I was 24 I started losing my hair and for the last two years I have been taking Propecia (no side effects, I just don't think it works, and costs $100 per month). At the same time I have also been using X Fusion which is similar to Topix it is a hair fiber powder but it takes 45 mins in the morning to put in my hair and gel and spray correctly.
For the past few years this has been working but my hair loss only seems to be getting worse enough so where the X Fusion now looks fake, my boss even commented that I look like an 80 year old from Boca Raton that has sprayed on hair. I went for a consultation at Hair Club and for $14,000 they could restore my hair they allege, but I would have to come back in another few years; this obviously wasn't for me, and I have no come to the realization that I am fooling no one.
I am now open to suggestions, I have included my official campaign photo from last year when I ran; do you guys think I could pull off a sly look? I went a website where the digitally removed my hair but to be honest I have no idea if this is how it would really turn out, I have also included this photo.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I used the same service and am wondering the same thing! If the picture is at all accurate, I think you would actually look better bald.
-
Why dont you both try a tight buzzcut ? Its a much more contemporary look that what you have now. Then decide on the shave later ?
-
I fear a buzz cut may only look worse, I put alot of product in my hair to get it to look even like that in the original photo. A buzz cut I think would only show off my bald spots worse than now.

Do the buzz cut. Look at it for about 5 minutes, then get out your razor and shave it bald.
Yes, you would look great bald.
I frequently get the comment, "You look like a professor" with my bald head. All say this with confidence as it's a positive thing. While your thinking about this, look around at the other guys sporting bald heads. There are probably more than you think. Bald looks sharp. Very stylish. Be sure to commit to the 30 day rule. Go for it.

You can easily pull of the sly look. And it will make you feel better overall because you won't have to worry about hair products and how your hair looks all the time.

You are a good looking guy and think about how much more trustworthy you'll appear to voters when you're not visibly trying to conceal your own image, free yourself from the hair in a can and all those gels and chemicals and people will see the confidence. You have nothing to lose but much to gain, shave your head for charity, get the look with an excuse and get voter appeal!

This is a great suggestion!

Welcome to the Forum!
You, no doubt, would look better shaved. Do you want your potential constituents looking at you and saying "I can't vote for a guy that phonies up his hair because I would always wonder what else he is phonying up" or would you like them to be saying "That's a confident looking, handsome guy that looks like I could trust him with my kids"????
I hope you're a conservative after I just gave away that little secret. ;)

Think--perception is a huge part of presenting yourself to the public. Now, a public appearance, sudden downpour, black streaks running down your forehead, hair strands gathering together--you're balding. Alternative, sly, neat, clean look, focus on the issues--not the hairline. Where do you want to be? Now, get there.

I am from the Nassau County GOP so at least you guys know my political leanings, as somebody mentioned previously about the black fake hair running down my face during a down pour, well that almost happened if I hadn't run inside I would have been a mess right in front of a local reporter. I realize that I need to do something to fix the hair problem.

You look great in the photo as sly.
The mention of cutting it for charity is a great idea. St. Baldricks has many events scheduled that you could participate in which would benefit childhood cancer research.

Don't even think Hair Club - - - -You are a great looking BALD politician.
It is stricking to be BALD. You make a bigger inpression on people. It has happened to me. Look at all of us.
Good luck - - -My entire family were in Westchester politics.

You Look GREAT with the Sly Look !
Making a hair donation is a perfect gesture. You can work this new look as a slogan and come "clean" instead of hiding the balding. Nothing worse than a balding official trying to hide his hairloss. Just think of Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels with his "partial comb-over". You always have to think what else is being hidden from his constituents.
Sly is the new you with that positive smile ! Go For It !
IF not Sly ... at lease get a short buzz cut and show everyone that hairloss is positive and not negative !

I guess I am looking for reassurance as someone who has done so much to hide hair loss it is a big step to just get rid of it all, it will probably be for the best. Where any of you a little apprehensive prior to going sly?

In 2010 I was working on a project in Westchester--and I was sly and had been for 3 years. I never received any adverse comment, or even a jest from the locals or others from elsewhere in the country because of my sly head. To the contrary, I was but one of many sly guys I would see everyday. If you just look around you--now that you're sensitized to the issue--you'll see lots of guys sporting the sly look. You won't make a blip on the radar. But also consider those old politicians of whatever political preference or perversion >:D who had absolutely obvious wigs and combovers--they were and are the object of political jabs because of their illogical clinging to what is gone and going.
To paraphrase the late Chinese pol, Deng Xiaoping, "I don't care if the cat is bald or not, I only care that he catches mice!" So count how many of us Sly Guys you see today and tomorrow, then join us.

Fantastic thread. if I was not already bald, I'd shave my head during lunch break today.

When you start looking around, there really are a lot of bald guys.

If the digital picture is correct, then you should definately go sly you have like the perfect shaped head.

I think sly might be a better option given all of the combover jobs I've seen politicians with...my 0.02
