Hey Guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm 21 and just started noticing thinning atop my dome two years ago. Needless to say, it's been a bit of a hard time for me adjusting to the hand mother nature has dealt.

The past few weeks have been the most difficult so far as I'm starting to notice my thinning hurry in a rapid recession. My appetite has been lacking along with constant stops to the bathroom or any reflective surface for that matter, obsessing over questions like "is my head to small for my body?" and "will I still be attractive to women?"

I buzzed it down to a 3 about five days ago and my avatar picture was just taken today - i was just wondering if you guys could give me some feedback on what you think of the look and maybe the proportion of my head size to my body.

I know this is a pretty self-loathing introduction, which is something I'm not proud of, but low self-esteem and anxiety are things that have not just troubled me but others in my family as well.

Otherwise, I'm a pretty outgoing guy, and generally a happy one at that! I'm a musician/writer and student at William Paterson University, studying Media Production with a concentration in audio and film. I'm looking forward to posting more on this board, and just wanted to thank everywhere here for being so willing to share their stories/advice. It's already helped a ton.

Thank you!

Welcome RJV.  Glad you have found us.  Going sly is a choice you will have to make.  We all look pretty good with our shinney heads.  I can only advise that you could try going shorter over a period of time.  The other alternative is to go to the bone all at once.  If this be the case and you don't like it, what you have will grow back in a short time.  The decision is in your corner.  Good luck on your decision making.

Welcome aboard and enjoy. You should give it a try and see how you like it as that's the only way to now for sure.

If you don't like it let it grow back. 8)

Welcome.  Glad you found us.  Going progressively closer with a buzz cut is a good idea.  That is what many of us here did before we actually shaved the dome.  Hang in there and be sure of our support whatever you choose.

Like others here I suggest buzzing it closer and closer.  then can idea if you like it shaved.  Then one day just do it.  that is what majority here have done.

Just do it!  Based on your photo, I would say you have no problems with head shape or stuff like that.  Being sly, as many of these guys have already pointed out, does give you life confidence. It is really cool to be bold in your appearance!

Looks like you can support a full beard.  I bald top (shaved or natural), goes well with the beard.

Your buzzed head looks good. When you are ready, buzz it shorter and shorter. Then finally get the razor out and give sly a try. All the guys here recommend the 30 day rule.  When you shave bald, shave daily for 30 days to give self and others a chance to get used to it.

Welcome.  You're a good candidate for the sly look.  Bald musicians.  Makes for good music.

Go for it RJV.  Shave your head for 30 days.  Give it a try.

Encouraged that you feel uplifted here.  I've been hanging out here for about 8 months and find the community to be very supportive, too.

Welcome aboard RJV, based on your picture, I'd say that the fine features of your face will be highlighted some more if you decide to shave your head smooth. It will be a good look for you.

well coming from a 22 y/o that did the shave 2 nights ago; there are a couple things i really noted that i like about just jumping into it.

1. Thought my head was pretty big as well but you do lose some of the excess as you get rid of the hair, there were things i expected like i do have a large occiput/notch on the back but its me and im unique.

2. It may not be easy to have confidence, especially around women, but i do notice i feel in control of my looks and i dont think about my hair anymore other than how much different my head feels without it. My gf loves me for it and as far as women that  i dont know, after going to a local wing joint with some friends women do sense it if you feel in control of yourself and taking charge helps it all.

100% agree with everyone saying go progressively shorter until you do or do not decide it is right for you. but no matter what you decide welcome to the forum

I agree with everyone else. Based on your pic, I think you will rock the sly. When/if to do it, however, is only a choice you can make.

I will tell you, from experience, the obsession to shave will never fully go away until you scratch the itch, an even after if you let it grow back.

I would add, the obsession to shave won't go away, and once you do, you're not likely going to want to go back to hair.  Shaving bald is a big confidence booster. You can see it in bald guys faces.
