Title: Been thinking of shaving for a year or so
Post by: Dr-photo on February 10, 2012, 05:17:00 AM
Well at long last I shaved my head completely. I've been clippering it off and on for years and eventually got it down to nearly nothing and thought if I don't go for it now I never will. It's not the best time to do it as its the coldest winter since records began, but too late now. Luckily my scalp itsnt that different a colour. I am trying to get a bit of sun when I get the chance. So far I've taken the electric razor route, it's a bit rough in parts but ok. I'm hoping my skin will toughen up a bit before I get the Quattro on it. I'm amazed it feels so different, even compared to a 2mm clipper cut. My 9 year old son hates it, and my wife is dismissive ( if that's what you want then go ahead). It does make me feel like smiling more, even whilst I was doing my tax return! That can't be bad. I haven't ventured out much so only my future boss has seen it, he said he's doing his in July ( his 40th b'day). Anyway thanks for the great site. I'll be logging in regularly I think.

I took exactly the same route to a shaved head.

BTW, I recommend the Headblade.

Pretty much the same route I took, and pretty much the same reaction from my son and wife. (My wife was a little more supportive, but still was not warm to the idea.)
But embrace the new look! Just think about all the future barber bills, shampoo, gels, etc. you won't be shelling out for anymore. Versus the cost of razor blades and slick or foam, the balance is in our favor monetarily.
And, really, sly is the best look on any guy :)

thanks for the welcome. think I will try a wet shave tonight, my electric razor leaves the top like sandpaper, and thats not nice, the back/thicker hair is fine. Now its gone its got to be smooth. I've read not to use a brand new blade is that good advice?

Welcome--very logical conclusion O0.  Whether the blade should be new is dependent more on the type of weapon you're planning to use.  A Fusion or Hydro 5--I'd use a new blade after a hot shower and some Headslick applied with a brush, or at the very least a gel shave product.  Double edge, not my area, can't tell you, same with the Headblade.

Head slick applied with a shaving brush feels so good. Like a mini-head massage.

A brand new Schick Hydro 5 has never cause me problems.

Welcome!!!!  You look like you were suited for slyness!  I have to ask you, what made you decide to become sly.  Probably for the vast majority of us, myself included, MPB gave us the push to do it.  But there are also quite a few guys here that just like the look and have MPB at all!  So where are you in that equation?  I believe that especially for those with more advanced MPB, family and friends are often more supportive!

MPB has started but not in full swing yet. I just thought I would try it before I have no choice. It's high maintainance, but I quite like it, so now the fear of balding has gone. I might have become bald by the time I grow it back. The sun is blazing today so my heads roasting, and the sunscreen is at home, hope I don't burn.

Key to using the head blade is keeping the wheels in contact with your head. takes a few shaves to get that feel down. For the first few, just go a little slower than you think and pay attention to what you are doing with the wheels. Don't press down hard.

I've not had a problem with the head blade. Been using it for a month now.  No slices or nicks.  But it is easier to keep the wheels down now as I've learned the feel.

Bald looks good on you, Dr.
