Hi everyone, spent an hour or three looking through the site and everyone seems cool and informative, but on to the introduction.
My name is Derek, 22, had shoulder length long hair for years and thanks to mpb I felt awkward with thinning spots so currently shaved down to a 1/4 inch. Only reason it is not completely gone is due to the cold weather and unsure about going straight to razor shave without getting used to it in regular temps. I will learn though.
If the name does not tip you off I am big on cars and keep an active lifestyle while working full time and school full time. I'm an open book, hello everyone.

Welcome.

Welcome aboard Derek. Feel free to browse around and contribute. I know you will not regret shaving smooth once you decide its time to embrace the bald life.

hey and welcome

Welcome Derek!

Hi, Derek. Welcome. It will work. keep it buzzed short for awhile, to adjust to temperatures, then shave it bald.
I was keeping my hair buzzed to no guard in November/december, then shaved bald in January. The temperature perception change was minimal ... but I did start with very short hair.
Once you shave bald, you won't want to go back to hair. Welcome.

Welcome to the group.

i kept mine buzzed very short starting when i was 18 many years ago. Kept it that way for some years until then I starting shaving head. After a time the short hair or no hair is you.

Hi Derek,
Welcome and enjoy the Board. I, too, like many of the guys above sported a short buzz cut for a few years before going sly. So you are in good company here . Why not try going to a bald dome this spring when the weather gets a bit warmer?
-
Thermal challenge? Buzz vs. Sly? No real difference.
If your head is cold at buzz; it'll be the same at Sly.
Solution? I hear they are called... Now what's their name? Oh, yeah: hats.
I make do with what's called a "watch cap," a fairly cheap knitted pullover wool thing-y. Very effective warmth-wise if you can put up with the "thug" affect they embody.

Welcome to the forum. I have to echo Ming on this one; A hat or beanie will keep the dome toasty. Shave it down, go out and try on some hat's until you find one you like. Good luck. O0

Hi Derek, thanks for posting your pic..you wear the shaved look really well..looks a lot better than shoulder length hair (in my opinion)..Hope you keep it smooth from now on.
