Okay, all my bald bros O:O, and all the lovely lay-days on the boards :@`...
I will be off line for the forseeable future. The computer and most of my meager worldly possessions are going into a storage unit while I make the move into Portland. While I make this transition, my things go to storage and my drums and I move into my van :-\.
I'm getting a 24hr gym membership so I have reliable place to shower (gotta keep SLY) and work out. I can sleep in their parking lot part of the time, and in front of a friends place part of the time O0.
I'll be putting all of my charm and SLY skills to the test looking for work first (bar tending), then for a room to rent in NE Portland once the finances are rolling steadily again.
I am making this move to be closer to my band (www.circledbyhounds.com). Also I can teach percussion in a larger city and hopefully pursue some sort of social/romantic life once again ;).
I have been living in relative isolation (followed the band here too) on the Oregon coast (town of 200, mostly retirees) for a little over a year now :( and am ready to get back out into the world.
I'll check in here as often as I can get on line.
I hope things all fall into place and I can find work and housing in short order, but if not, then I will endeavor to stay as safe and out of trouble as a kilted bald guy living in a van can.
Wish me GOOD luck ^-^
-
Wow! That sounds like it will be a fun adventure. Good luck for sure bro! I wish I knew someone up there that could lend you a room until you got your finances in order.
-
Good Luck and keep in touch. Get on-line at the public library and let us know how you are doing. O0
-
Good Luck man. I know you will be fine. Starting over is a challenge but you don't strike me as the type to worry about challenges LOL. Peace man O0
-
Aww Vash, you'll be missed around here for sure :(
Stay safe, be lucky and keep it sly!!
Mwaah!! :-* :@`
-
Good luck in your move 8)
-
Sounds like quite the adventure....
All the best, brutha...
Be sure to check back in a.s.a.p......even if you have to get online at a library or somthin'
Peace

Hey Vash, that's cool. Though I'm quite an adventurous guy myself (and I know how it is living in solitude), I'd never
dare do something as crazy as this. You definitely got balls.
Good luck, stay safe, and check in as often as you can. :)

Hi kids,
Just a brief note to let you know I am still alive and not in jail or anything. I have been in P-town for nearly a week now and am doing as ok as can be expected all things considered. The high(and low)lights of my time so far:
I got all my stuff secured in a super cool older storage facility in downtown Portland. It's an oldschool brick building and I am on the 3rd floor, which means I have to use the kick ass oldschool freight elevator. I am payed up through July 1st, so thats a load off my big bald head.
Had a tire blow out at 80mph on the way to Eugene to perform a FREE show. Upon reaching the final destination and getting the tire looked at (see replaced) I was informed that not only do I need a new SET of tires, I need a front brake job in order for the vehicle to be street legal. SSSOOOO... goodbye $469 of my savings (which was most of it).
So the gym membership vanished in puff of paying for the van expenses, but hey..it IS my home we are talking about.
I have spent most of my time pounding pavement in search of a job and have gotten some good response, but no offers yet. I am off to an interview in about 1/2 hr so wish me luck.
Sleeping in the van is surprisingly comfy and will work out for the time being.
Not had the funds to really go out and socialize much so I've yet to meet any fascinating new people, but I am hopeful.
Well, I am almost out of time on the internet cafe machine, so I will sign off with the promise of another update soon.
Until then, take as good care of yourselves as youve asked me to take of myself.
-
Vash, it's great to "hear" you're doing well. Bummer about the tires and breaks, but as you said, it IS your home.
-
Tough luck Vash, but doesn't look like it got you down. Keep your gleaming dome high, and it will work out for you. Thanks for the update
-
Good luck to you Vash.
I have not spent much time in Portland, but I hear it is a great city. Plus, late summers in Portland (along with Seattle...which I have spent a lot of time in) cannot be beat. If your travels take you to Southern Oregon (Rogue Valley / Medford area), I know a ton of people there. Granted it's not Portland as far as population goes and likely from your band goals, but depending on your skill set, I'm sure I could point you in the right direction with work.
All the Best!

Great to know you're ok Vash, sorry to hear about the van problems though. Hang in there and check in with us when you can for moral support.
-
Good to hear you're safe Vash. Good luck and keep in touch.

Thanks for checking in, Vash
All in all it sounds like an excellent adventure......many a success story has started with such humble beginnings as you are embracing, man.
All the best

Hang in there Vash...Portland is a great city...you'll fit in great....if you need a cool scene to meet some folks and you've got no funds...the "Saturday market" by the river is a great funky vibe type thing to do..
also the Hawthorne district is a hippy type area full of walk around stuff...
check out the Bagdad theater...they run movies for cheap there and it's a cool vibe to hang out if you're low on funds...plus you can catch a brew while you're kicin' back on the coach watchin' the flick..
there is a ton of stuff, for no money to do in Portland...you'll start to find them soon enough..
good luck bro and see you around Portland one of these days!
-
Great to hear from you. Remember us when you're famous.
-
Sorry to chime in so late Vash, keep your chin up as they say, we're pullin for ya. I admire you for going after your dream. Just keep saying to yourself "It's not over till I win" and remember that life is only 4% of what happens to us and 96% how we react to it! But do keep us informed brother.

Well folks,
The job goes well... much cooking and socializing with customers on the job (I cook directly behind a bar, so I can hang out and talk while I work.. pretty sweet.). The place is one of the oldest and best attended pool halls in Portland... been in business for 45 years, 15 tables including proper billiards, fulll bar, full kitchen with an expansive menu.
Still looking for a room to rent, so's I can get my poor computer out of storage and get back to my usual online activities.
Thanks again for all your happy happy thoughts.
-
Rock on!
Our best wishes to ya!
-

HELLO bald DUDES (and ladies)!
I have landed somwhere. It is not idillic, but it IS a residence that doesn't have wheels on. It's quieter, safer and more legal than urban van camping. I placed an ad on Craigslist detaling what I was looking for and what I could afford. So I got a call from a couple nice folks who are big movie/gamer geeks who had a basement room to rent. So I have a basement room with cableTV and high speed internet included for $500/mo. flat rate, all inclusive. I am bout 15 minutes from the Protland Airport in case any of you want to fly out and visit.
It's a bit further from the city center than I'd like to be, and it's not in any of the “arts neigborhoodsâ€, but I can afford it and it'll give me a place to be while I save up for something located more where I want to be.
So, anybody who'd like to send housewarming cards, letters, would like Google map me, or whatever, you can send stuff to:
Vash
8225 NE. Thompson ST.
Portland OR.
97220
Thanks again for all the care, concern, well wishes and contact while I have been living in the van. I have appreciated it a great deal.
OH P.S.
Cingular finally offered me a contract deal to get me off my Go Phone pla with them, so they gave me a nifty new phone in the deal that does internets and stuff so I can now text message and send/receive pictures and IM via my phone. So if you HAVE my number, there ya go... if you WANT my number, but don't have it... drop an email and I'll pass it on.
Thanks again.....I am once again online, I will be around pretty rgularly for IM and such... SO, yay me.
-
Awesome Vash!! Hopefully business will take me up to Portland sometime soon. Gotta love Craigslist!
-
Outstanding Vash, glad to hear you are settled and that we will begin hearing from you again.
-
Great news...glad you found something so relatively fast!
Sounds like you're somewhere off the 205 fwy...the parents live over the river in the "Couv"...
eventually I'll end up just off the 5fwy near downtown Vancouver...
A northwest sly guy hookup could be in order!
Take care my bald brutha!
-
Great news Vash. Glad to hear the cards are falling in place. Take care.
-
Good luck bro ... Sounds like things are falling into place
