Title: Alum as aftershave
Post by: kalbo on January 20, 2012, 03:35:37 PM
I have read in one of the posts about using alum as aftershave, I tried it out and it really gives an amazing shine. It is like my scalp has been laminated. After shaving, with scalp still wet, I rubbed the alum crystal all over my head and pat dry. Amazing shine.  ;)

Alum is in some of those septic sticks that stop the bleeding from shaving cuts. Looks like you are putting a film of it on your head. Does it feel like it is drawing your skin, like letting soap dry on your face?

It does not feel that way but the shine is really amazing.  :)

I always use an alum block and it does tighten the skin.  Not that it dries it, just closes the pores etc.  It's similar to a styptic pencil  but I believe a slightly differentchemical formula...the alum block has a similar property in that it also helps to seal up small knicks.  I really like it.

a lot of organic/nuts and berry/crunchy granola type stores carry it.  also can try local barber supply companies.

online most of the shave suppliers have it as well as Mama Bear Soaps.
