Title: NFL Playoffs 2011-12
Post by: Sir Harry on January 09, 2012, 09:43:00 AM
Of the four games played this past weekend, which one did you enjoy the most? As much as I enjoyed the Saints' win over the Lions, I think the Broncos/Steelers game was the best of the weekend...Steelers fans, I understand your pain, I know how it feels to lose a game that you were "supposed" to win, they said the same about the Saints in Seattle last year....The other two games were snoozefests, though I enjoyed the Falcons getting creamed in the playoffs...again. My brother says that the Steelers had a bad game, but I say Denver was the better team when it counted....Thoughts on any of the games?

the steelers-broncos was a real treat for any football fan. Being a Ravens fan, i was more into this game "hating" the Steelers et al

Enjoyed the Bronco game...saw a fan all decked out in "old" Bronco attire at the commissary about 5 hours prior to kick off.  He was pretty stoked and I wished him luck, plus he is excited about the Broncos going back to some form of their "old" uniforms next year.

As long as those Cheezy Packers get beat...it's all good!!!

For what it is worth, I'm only 37 points behind the leader in the NFL Fantasy Playoff Challenge which puts me ranked at...

49,345

Ohhh, those Super Bowl Tickets are mine! $c#m

Well, I have mixed emotions on the Donkeys. As a Raider fan, I naturally hope the Donks get the snot beat out of them. However, I firmly believe Tebow sucks. He had a good game, and the Steelers took them lightly. However, the more success Tebow has this year, the more pressure Horseface Elway has to play him in 2012, which is great for the Raiders.

We're pulling for the Ravens (the #2 team in the House of Schro).

Big time Ravens fan here........... I took great pleasure in watching the Steelers take it on the chin yesterday.

I don't think the Packers will repeat.

Steelers and Broncos game was the best...................sure wish the Lions could have beaten N.O.,but the Saints were too much for them. What a powerful offense. I'm hoping the Pats go down as I am sick of Brady [he is great however ]. Great games next week end!

Sorry Dude.... their defense sucks...... and defense wins in the playoffs. Besides if the Pats have to play the Ravens, we all know that Brady is scared to death of Suggs and Company. Brady will take crying to a new level if that game happens.

As much as we like to bash on the Falcons, I actually felt sorry for them this weekend....I don't know which is worse: dropping a "deuce" in the playoffs (no pun intended) or the fact that Tebow and TJ Yates now have more playoff wins than Matty Ice.

I'm really looking forward to the Saints / 49er game.
I'm a huge Drew Brees fan (class act), but I'm also one of the few Raider fans that doesn't mind the 49ers. As much as I like Brees, I hope the Super Bowl is....

That was a long time ago...My son and I went to the first game the Bucs won at home (in their 3rd year)...they beat St. Louis. Remember Doug Williams? I remember when he threw for >400 yards and still lost the game...the Bucs were/are heart breakers.

As much as I don't care for the Suckaneers I can live with them or Carolina winning. As long as the Falcons lose, it's good enough for me.  The Saints lost a heartbreaker, but we can add Alex Smith to the "I got a playoff win before Matty Ice" club!

Yup, the Saints did loose a close one...that was an exciting game. And the Denver Tebowz got a football clinic from the Pats...what a slaughter! So who's going to go all the way to the Super Bowl this year?

Her only problem is she is a Packer fan.

The 49ers impressed me the most..................Alex Smith made some throws that were about as good as can be,very impressive! The defense was as tough as it has been all year..................smash mouth football!!!   The 49ers will be a load for whom ever they face.
Title: Re: Wildcard weekend 2012

Loved that 49ers win!!!

No surprise in New England.

As for the Matt Ryan hatred...... even before he was drafted all the "experts" were predicting great things for him. I think he is a QB with slightly better than average skills and an average arm. He just can't make all the throws an NFL QB needs to make. His record in big games prove this out.

The most stated comparison I hear of our own beloved Joe Flacco is to Matt Ryan since they came out in the same draft. Their career stats are remarkably similar..... but look at the total number of wins and the playoff record (Ryan 0-3 I think, and Joe is 4-3 before today). Also, the Ravens play in a much tougher division than Atlanta and Flacco has shown that he can win big games pretty consisitently. Flacco has his shortcomings as do most QBs but I'll take him over most of the current NFL QBs. I'll take Joe over Ryan 100 times out of 100.

Flacco has the most wins in his first four years of any NFL QB ever. Pretty impressive when you really think about it. Ryan is rather pedestrian. I think Ryan has been a big disappointment overall and it's starting to catch up to him.

Joe's stats would have been much better this year but our receivers dropped way more balls than the league averavge this year.

By the way.... Joe is WAY under appreciated in Baltimore. The guy is a winner and Ryan is not. Ironically...  I wanted the Ravens to wind up with Ryan in the draft but he was already gone by the time it was the Ravens pick. I'm glad we have Joe.

Thanks Koz. I thought it was because he played in Atlanta, and (from what I gather) most people from the south don't consider Atlanta "the South".

I'm rooting for the Packers today for the reason that I think it would be completely ironic that Nor Cal boy Aaron Rodgers, who most  likely rooted for the 49ers growing up, would be the one to knock them out of the playoffs.

In all honesty, I was hoping that Brady suffered a career ending injury and the Donkeys won. Anything that forces Elway to keep Tebow on the roster in 2012 is a good thing.

The Giants put a huge ass whoopin' on the Packers.................Giants are peaking at the right time and the showdown with the 49ers should be a great game. I feel very bad for the Packers coach who lost his son ..................as I can't think of a worse situation for a parent because there is nothing worse than that. Prayers to him and his family.

Just curious....what's with all the Ryan hate?
[/quote] @Mikekoz- thanks for the explanation from the Ravens point of view @Schro- As a Saints fan, the rivalry with the Falcons has been going on for more than 40 years, Many times each has reveled in the other's misery for whatever reason. Even when the Falcons and/or Saints were bad teams, the home games against each other always sold out. It's not that I hate Ryan, it's just that Atlanta fans can't seem to get over Vick (he did win two playoff games with them, one at Lambeau no less). As Mike put it, Ryan kicks butt in the regular season, but fizzles out in the playoffs. As for the Suckaneers/Buccaneers they play us tough, but we've only been division foes for ten seasons and our best overall winning percentage is against them, so I'm not going to get into a shouting match about a team that we own more often than not. Side note to the moderators: If it's OK, I changed the thread title to "NFL Playoffs 2011-12" since this thread wound up spilling over into the second weekend.

Congratulations to the Giants and their fans....also, congrats to the Patriots on a fine season. Ten things I learned about this year's postseason (some I learned from previous postseasons)

1. The beauty of the NFL playoffs is that you either do it on that day, or you don't. The team with the better record and/or talent doesn't always win the playoff game (see 2011 Steelers/Broncos and 2010 Saints/Seahawks). Denver and Seattle may have been inferior division champions in those matchups, but they were the better teams when the game was played and that's all that matters.

2. Teams that can go into the most hostile environments on the road and still win are better equipped to handle the big stage when they get there.

3. Doesn't matter what your regular season record was entering the dance...it's what you do once you get there. The Giants had the second-worst record among the entire playoff field, in fairness they do play in a tough division known as the NFC East.

4. Eli is coming of age, but just because he has two rings to Peyton's one does NOT make him a better quarterback than Peyton(at least not now)...are you telling me that Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson are better than Dan Marino and Jim Kelly by virtue of having more rings?. It takes more than the QB to win Championships, it takes a team!

5. You need to be able to win shootouts and grind-out games. Offensively challenged teams cannot win every game 13-10 nor can defensively challenged teams win every game 38-35 (are you listening Packers, 49ers, Saints and Patriots?)

6. Every game has a hero and every game has a goat...but one play alone cannot win or lose a game. It's about taking advantage of opportunities when given them.

7. I'm still waiting to see how these new overtime rules play out....what happened in the two overtime games this season would have had been the same under the old sudden-death format which is still in effect during the regular season.

8. As a Saints fan, while it was disappointing to miss out on a golden opportunity, it doesn't make sense to piss and moan on what might have been (yes hosting the NFC Championship would have been nice), but we didn't get the job done in San Francisco. It does make me feel better when the Giants say that they would have preferred to play the 49ers because they knew they had no chance on the road in New Orleans.

9. If Gronk was healthy, I think he makes that catch in the endzone on the last play Hail Mary...I'm just wondering which NFL player Patriots fans seem to hate more....Eli, Peyton or Bernard Pollard?...

10. Only the NFL can have a three-month plus lockout and have it's product come back better than ever...Already looking forward to September.

Enjoyed all the comments and points of view on this thread....Thanks again!
