If these were the 50', 60's or even the 70's i'd say that going sly would've probably single you out in the workforce. Nowadays, it's not much of a "statement" and i'd even say a non-event , in my case anyway, because it is becoming rather mainstream.

Pretty much, bald heads are now like the "fad" in high school....when only a few people had it and stood out, it seemed like the "in thing" that many people had to have......Now, I don't think anyone is making a big deal out of it anymore, it seems like when only a few can get or do something, it's cool, but when everyone can do it, the "novelty" dies down...on a side note, an older guy at work asked me to shave his head with a razor but I declined......

Absolutely not an issue in the "professional" world.  I'm a lawyer and our offices are in a high rize building together with other lawyers, accountants and the regional offices of a major national bank.  I have never gone a day without seeing several other sly guys who work in the building.  Frankly it's just another "haircut" style.  This is not an excuse for not shaving--not at all.

At university no one has made a problem out of my sly head so far. Of course my peers and my professors have asked me why, but never with any bad intentions. I think most of them were just worried.

At work (I work in the footwear department of a department store), my colleagues and bosses have been very positive, saying it is a very 'clean and mature' look on me. But the clients have been acting differently. Some of them really don't mind, but others have clearly been waiting to get helped by my coworkers (as in: I ask if I can help them, they go with the "we're just having a look" and then when one of my coworkers is available they ask them instead). There have not been any complaints, but everyone is expecting I'll be getting transferred to the sportswear department soon. I don't really mind either way, but if I have the choice, I'd rather stay where I am: the casual footwear dept.

Sly looks very dapper and neat, in my opinion, with professional clothing.

I can't imagine that looking your best would ever be a career problem.

I am in the field of sales and it is a non issue. People have gotten used to my shaved head already. If there is an advantage, it would be that I won't be needing a hairnet every time I enter a laboratory or production area.

One thing more, it makes me unforgettable to my clients...I am the only one with a shaved head.

When I still worked at the store I always had customers ask for "the bald guy". Some places you still have mostly haired guys so when you have an advantage like a shaved head, you stand out and people remember you

Everyone knows who to look for...the big bald guy with the goatee.

If anything, it has enhanced my career.

Old post but I haven't noticed any negatives. It's only hair (or not). Looks way better than the comb over jobs.

Only positives here. Two weeks after shaving sly, went for an interview. Got the job and more money than I asked for.

I first shaved my head in 1980 and was in a professional career with a major corporation.  Presented no problems. Of course got kidded a bit by colleagues.  But that was a enjoyable.

A couple people commented about my new appearance at first, but that faded away pretty fast.  I've not noticed any adverse impact on my career.
