I like many of you started going bald young. I started thinning out in my early years of 17. And for long time I mean a LONG time I fretted about it, cared about it, and was depressed. I still have my days, but its come a long way.
Anyways what this post is really about is to tell you that bald is cool nowadays. From teenagers to adults to grandpas are sporting it. Just go into any building nowadays and you are likely to see at least one other guy who shaves his head. It's the "In" thing to do if your going bald. An ya you'll be on the butt end of allot of hair jokes but its usually all in good fun so don't take it to seriously. People will respect your for the most part regardless.
Plus if your young like me (20) You'll have kids come up to you when they start thinning out and talking about shaving their heads. I've noticed a few people do this and while they may not have all come up and talk to me I feel like me having my head shaved made them see it was a possibility. At the moment if your young you might feel like the only kid on this planet who's going through this, but trust me your not. And while we may be the first of our generation to go bald we'll hardly be the last. So just shave your head and let it shine. Like Dr. Seuss said "Those Who Mind Don't Matter and Those Who Matter Don't Mind."

Well Said - Definatly cool thats why there is also so many BBC guys out there as well.

Was that Dr. Seuss? Cool. I knew there was a reason I always liked that guy.

Bald is cool and has gone mainstream. I do see a lot of shaved heads from where I am and it crosses all walks of life, young and old, rich and poor, students and professionals.

Nice post, Kenny!

Well, if it's "cool" and "mainstream," maybe I should go back to growing out what I have--at excessive length. "Mainstream" is one thing, "avant garde" is another, and maybe "blowin' in the wind" is where it'll be next.
On the other hand, maybe the next new thing is waxing your chest hair. Have to give that some thought.
-
Very nice post Kenny. Nice to see you back on board.
Peace.....

It's true, being bald, accepting and loving the look is a form of inspiration to others since it is for yourself, it feels and radiates but it's no secret, it is very fashionable also, bad boys like Vin Diesel are wearing it, Max Payne just turned BBC :P. This is not just a simple shave, it's a mindset.

I think this is one of many reasons to stand proudly and wear bald with confidence.
Like it or not, we become role models for others who are searching for a "hair" solution.
OR ... we have the opportunity to change people's opinions who are scared by bald (for whatever reason) and their interaction with us can either put them at ease, or at least reconsider the pre-conceived notion.

Judging by that big smile on your profile pic, there's a lot of BBC cool happiness coming from you these days. :)

Wow!, Kenny your so young and you get it.
It took me 44 years to understand.
Bravo!!

Being bald is the ultimate in cool. I'll pass on waxing my chest hair, though, Ming. I'm not that desperate to get rid of it!
-
Awesome post, it really is a mindset. And I'll also pass on the chest hair waxing, it would be like putting glue on a bear.
-
I agree with you Kenny. Nice to see you back. I love love love being bald and shaving my head everyday. O:O

Oh man, tell me about it! That is one thing I never want to try... I think I would have the same reaction as the bear too!

I don't doubt it, there would definitely be some roaring going on!

Very well said Kenny. Great post.

Nice post Kenny. I agree bald is very cool, bald is in and the stigma has gone. SBG is changing the world -- one head at a time.

I honestly never see "sly" I see shaved heads with stubble more often. I honestly like the stubble look more even when it's like this it still looks good.

We all have our personal preferences Silverking. Choose whatever makes you happy that is the benefit of freedom.

Shaved heads are in for good I prefer my head to look like it has been buffed with a powertool
-
I used to prefer short stubble to my new improved 'Sly' look but I'm not going back to the sandpaper feel. Definataly prefer smooth and slick now!

As the weeks go by, you will find it harder to tolerate any sandpaper feel.
Been slick bald myself for 13 months and I have forgotten the feel of hair of my head !!

Sounds good to me

That knowing look between sly guys in the same vicinity is pretty funny, it's like the Jeep wave or something. Also, I gotta confess, sometimes I evaluate another's shave job and size it up with my own ::)
-
It is funny how you get in the mindset. I was at a gig last night and saw a couple of guys rocking the bald a beard look and I thought they both looked cool. I can't remember the last time I saw someone and thought "that guys got cool hair, wish I could rock that look".

I agree with you Viking. I go to quite a lot of local metal/punk gigs and see a few other bald and bearded blokes and we all rock the look I think. I don't get hairstyle envy but I definitely get beard envy at the moment!

I've also started to notice the casual 'eye contact' thing with other sly strangers, reminds me of my motorcylce days in the 50's (not a lot of riders back then) when we met on the road we'd exchange waves.

but I definitely get beard envy at the moment!
Give it another 1-2 months and the beard envy will replace by full beard. Like this...
