I went sly a about three or four years ago due to my "mohawk" See next pic.

I stayed sly for a while, but shaving became a PIA. I didn't mind the sly look; I always kept buzzed or very short hair after I buzzed my pony tail at 20 lol. Short hair was easy and fit me and the people I socialized with. Anyway, I went back to short/clippered hair. I can't remember how long I stayed sly, but I doubt it was for 30 days
As time passed, I began to HATE my "power alleys" and the "helipad". See next pic

So, the day before Thanksgiving I razored it down to the bone.

Well, I'M BACK. My 30-days is almost up, but I can honestly say that I'll be sly for life.
More of my story and for those contemplating this commitment...
The shaving becomes easier with time, as I guess facing shaving did as a teen. 30-days is a GOOD benchmark to make shaving an easy habit and get you used to the new look. Shaving one or two times, or a couple of weeks isn't enough.
I have had buzzed hair for a very long time, many of friends have buzzed hair, and two are sly. This was still a little difficult for me. So, I can relate to those that struggle with this decision. But, I got over shock and you will, too. The shock is your own self-image conflicting with the new face in the mirror. As others have said, the world doesn't care. While I was thinking about doing this, I made it a point to spot all the sly guys I saw out in the world. I tried to force myself to see shaving as a non-freakish element of society. After doing this one Saturday afternoon, running errands, I noticed I didn't have to force myself to think this way....slyness WAS perfectly normal and natural. Try it, or look around this site.
But what did look out-of-place was my level of MPB...unacceptable.

You look great as a sly guy! Congratulations, too, on realizing that being sly is a completely normal and natural. Once you accept that, it's a great feeling!

Welcome. Looks good O0. I've been shaving the head for about 4 months now. I agree it can be a PIA but it's worth it. I love the look and really love the feel and convenience.... after that morning shave.

Good decision. Shaving can be a PIA but remember, so can hair maintenance.

Welcome, looks fine. The "power alleys" and "helipad" of the Norwood 3 to 4 stages of mpb are tough to get over--there's that part of you that says, "It looks okay if it's cut right" but reality dictates otherwise. You've made the right move--and even shaving can be rewarding if you get into the "zen" of it.

(They have seen me bald before) I told them "I know, that's why I kept it so short and you nagged me about that. Now that I'm shaved, I look better than OK. I look GREAT" My step-mom said, "You know...I think you looked better with hair". I said "I know think that and its OK. You'll get used to it"
The best part is my step-sisters fiance's MPB is waaaaay worse than mine. She won't let him do it...probably because of the upcoming wedding. He told me he did it once, and he thought he "looked goofy". I'm not too close to him; I only met him a handful of times. As I get to know him better, I will tell him "Dude, you "look goofy" now. I think he'll be my first convert. :)

You're the 24/7 guy here--that's the only one whose opinion really matters.

Well he can do it and get in front of the issue, put it behind him and move on, or his only, and I do mean only, other alternative is for it to happen hair, by hair, by hair--Mother Nature's cleaning his scalp--she's not neat but she is relentless. Don't push him, he'll follow your example as Mother Nature does her thing. You could remind him now and then that hair #1227 is out of place since #1429 and #1652 aren't around to support it anymore? >:D

I think it looks awesome, I got the same from my mum 'what did you shave it off for etc etc', but they are our heads and we like them bald, so that never really matters!

So true Slyfive. Been shaving for almost 15 years, and my mom still does not approve.

Waiting, I suggest you keep your dome the way you like it. I don't understand why people let what others say influence them so often.
