I'm having no problem with the top and sides of my head going against the grain, but the back of my head is always getting major burn/irritation on the bottom mainly. I shave in the shower with a prep and a scrub. Then I lather up incredibly well, but the back of the head always seems to be scraping rather than just gliding the blade. I shave straight up on the back of my head. Would going at an angle help? I'm shaving everyday and using a schick hydro 5 as my main shaver.

You could try angles, or even where the irritation starts, maybe go the opposite direction there, that area tends to be a little more sensitive

Try easing up on the pressure you apply when shaving, my scalp gets irritated when I press the razor too much at times.
-
on the back of your head, do you shave it agains the grain?
if yes, try to go with the grain.
-
would it ok to just shave with the grain on the back and against the grain on top and sides?
-
If you want it baby smooth you need to go against the grain all over, at least that's my experience. When you shave every day like I do there is so little hair that going with the grain is almost like not shaving for me
I use a Headblade and it works great for me, realize it might not on everybody

it's exactly the way I do!

I shave against the grain all over my head. I want to feel totally smooth. I would feel awkward if the back of my head is not as smooth as the top and sides. But then again, do whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

What shaving cream are you using?

ive used headslick, bald guys shave gel, and nivea sensitive shave gel. the nivea seems to be the least irritation because it produces alot of lather. does lather = smoother shave? i might need to try the other products without pushing down with pressure.

You shave in the shower? Getting your dome good & hot would definitely help.
Good Luck.

Light pressure is they key! You might want to try a shaving oil as they provide a bit more protection.

Thanks for all the feedback. I do shave in the shower, so prep is not the problem. I will consider giving shaving oil a try and MOST IMPORTANTLY being patient and not using pressure. Also, I need to swap out blades more often.

Are you using an antibacterial astringent after shaving, keeping the dome clean--washing a couple of times a day, pillowcases changed etc.? If you skin gets dirty and accumlates oil, it often will have a reaction.
