Okay--dumb question of the day, WTF is Tapatalk and why would I want to put it on my smartphone?--I just got one :D and am completely and totally challenged--today I couldn't answer a phone call :o.  Solved that one.

It's an app (application) that makes it easier to use the forum on your smartphone versus using the browser on the smart phone.

Thanks--anything to make that easier--never realized my fingers could be so big and clumsy.  I'm assuming  you've vetted the app for problems and that it is a reliable product, I have heard for Android users there are issues with the apps being offered by some developers.

Should it be the free one or the $2.99 one?

I think there are free versions, but the actual Tapatalk app cost $2.99.

It's worth the $2.99, I use it on a total of three forums now including SBG.

Pictures come up on the Android version--the only difficulty is replying through the app--but that's just me and my undeveloped skills in key entry.  Over all a pretty good thing to have on the phone.

Tapatalk.  I got it for my Touch rather than my Blackberry at this point, but will probably put it on my phone when I upgrade it in the near future.  Thanks for bringing this app to our attention PigPen!

Tapatalk is worth the money simply because the single purchase works on all Tapatalk-enabled sites.  Apologies to the three guys in the screenshot who will forever have their posts at the forefront of an unrelated topic.

My typing is becoming better very quickly & now I've got to set up the "learn" feature to customize voice recognition.  These phones are fantastic--originally, although I needed a new phone, I was wondering if I'd "over bought."  At nearly two weeks I'm totally addicted to the Razr--and the BB sits on the desk.  The BB is a company phone but everything is now forwarded to my Razr--so much better.

If you're not scared of them, the current run of handsets (no longer phones, as such) can be quite useful.  I run two businesses from mine and am able to do everything from KVM into servers for remote control to real-time video support to simple navigation.   I'm an early adopter and have become a small bit dependent on it.

You could also try a slider keyboard like Swype or Slide-It.  They can be more accurate at times and are actively learning all the time.  Regardless of input method, Tapatalk can be an addictive piece of software if you're into active forums.

Typing this from the app - I just downloaded. One thing to note is that it is a universal app on iOS devices. Having to purchase it twice for my two iOS devices was my main hesitation with trying it. With it being universal I can put it on both with just one purchase price :)

My initial impression is that it is a good app.

So how did you get it from one device to the other without purchasing it again?
Title: Re: Tapatalk
Post by: -Doug- on January 06, 2012, 10:10:12 PM
You just "buy" it again. Since I already bought it initially, the iOS app store treats it like I am just installing it again.  I think the app store actually allows an app to be installed on up to five devices per apple ID legally.

Android-wise, the purchase is tied to your account.   As long as you use the same account on multiple devices you're fine.

I like tapatalk and use it several times a day.  But...I don't like the tiny profile pictures on a site like this one.  I'm using the app on my iPad and even using the app's largest font (which I think increased the profile pictures a little bit) they are still so small as to be almost worthless.  I want to see the bald guys here and so I have to return to this site using a browser to see a decent sized picture.  A bit inconvenient!

Nice suggestion Doug! You sshould PM Tyler with the suggestion since he would be the one to have to do that.

Good suggestion.  When you try to login to the site with your mobile phone or tablet it actually pops up a window telling you that Tapatalk is available if you're using a browser.

I'll see where I can make it more noticeable for those accessing through a PC.

Picture, as promised...

Here's the forum's latest threads and comments on the regular version of Tapatalk.

(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi795.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fyy238%2Ffdchester%2F82e84d8c94e03d06698880f43034e788.jpg&hash=d2c48c2f079076f9666d27b252daa8cea1242afd)

Here's the same information as viewed through Tapatalk HD.

(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi795.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fyy238%2Ffdchester%2F2ddc19e209723302563c8c483b29a5b3.jpg&hash=ce884048d4261f7b4a7609310f2cec6fc0b3987b)

Basically, I would compare the HD version to an email program. You have the latest threads on the left side of the screen and the posts within that thread on the right.

The one down side I see to the HD version is that it isn't a universal app (at least in the iOS App Store) like the non-HD version is. Tapatalk HD is for the iPad and Tapatalk 2 (which appears to be like Tapatalk HD) is for the iPhone/iPod.

This is my take on Tapatalk HD. I have no experience with Tapatalk 2.
